SPJIMR is the first management school of India which introduced uniquely curated and innovative non-classroom learning experiences 20 years ago for students pursuing their dream courses with the college. And under each initiative, students are exposed to a dynamic and different learning environment in order to transform them from ordinary students to future leaders. Apart from this, the main aim of SP Jain is to promote value-based growth and influence managerial practices through its non- classroom learning (NCL) initiatives. Following are some of the unique approaches which college has adopted for the all around growth and development of its students.

Personal Growth Lab (PG Lab):

PG Lab, which is also known as the Personal Growth Lab, is an integral component of the Organizational Behavior course at SPJIMR. This lab is mainly scheduled away from the hustle and bustle of the city for students at the beginning of their MBA Journey and they are immersed rigorously in a 4-day experimental session, which consists of in-class human relations conceptual inputs, reflections, practical management lessons, and outbound activities. In other words, PG Lab is a safe place for participants to share and reflect openly on their personal traits. Another benefit of this lab is that it helps students to understand others in a better way and they also develop effective interaction, communication and collaboration skills and good understanding of groups and organizations.

Abhyudaya:

Under Abhyudaya, which is nothing but a truly transformative and experiential learning course, students of PGDM and PGDM (BM) mentor school children coming from underprivileged backgrounds. And these bright school children are called Sitara, which means a star. As part of the program, total 12 visits to Sitara Homes are conducted by the participants and they primarily provide one-on-one mentoring sessions for young minds. And since students of the college gather a lot of knowledge about Business Sustainability through the Abhyudaya course, they in return are asked to design sustainable business projects to solve social issues post their interaction with slums and its people. And once they are ready with their proposal, it is further evaluated by an industry panel. Overall, we can say that students not only get the chance to strengthen their mentoring skills but also become socially sensitive citizens and business leaders.

Sitara Vaibhavi has shared her journey as a mentee with the PGDM and PGDM (BM) students. Watch it here.

Development of Corporate Citizenship:

As the SPJIMR firmly believes that Civil Society is a learning mechanism, hence it started the novel initiative of DOCC 30+ years ago with the aim to promote sensitivity and sensibility among students about the societal issue of grassroots communities. Also, DOCC offers immersive internship opportunities to students not only across India but also other countries in South Asia, so that they can have fruitful interaction with grassroot communities and organizations. And this global and diverse interaction with people allows participants to reflect on and apply their management learnings to unstructured environments.

In 2023 itself, 140+ projects were undertaken by SPJIMR students with close to 90 organizations. And these projects were mainly related to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students even had an opportunity to present their project and field experiences from their social internship (DoCC) to experts from corporate, social sector, faculty from SPJIMR and other academic institutions, as well as SPJIMR alumni.

Assessment and Development of Managerial and Administrative Potential:

The Assessment and Development of Managerial and Administrative Potential, which is shortly called as ADMAP is a very unique and immersive experience pioneered by SPJIMR for its young and ambitious minds and future leaders. Under ADMAP, participants are primarily grouped into different committees and each committee actively manages a range of the institute’s core administrative activities, including admissions, placements, industry engagements, cultural fests and events.

A faculty-in charge also works closely with each committee to guide the participants and help them derive management lessons from their experiences. Apart from all this, participants get hands-on training and in-depth knowledge of various aspects of management, which ultimately help them to become well-rounded leaders, entrepreneurs, and managers of tomorrow who can get things done efficiently in a rapidly changing and disruptive business environment.
