What are the factors which keep you connected with the education sector and how has your experience been so far with this institute?
I've been in the education sector for the past 17 years, starting my career in 2006. I am deeply connected to this field because it ignites my passion for learning about emerging technologies and teaching students about them. Witnessing the satisfaction on students' faces when they grasp concepts is incredibly fulfilling for me. I have been a part of the Prestige Institute of Engineering since July 2020. It's one of the finest institutes, offering world-class facilities to students. What sets this institute apart is our focus on holistic development beyond just the prescribed syllabus. We aim to expose students to diverse areas of study and provide them with additional knowledge beyond the standard course curriculum. This includes both foundational and advanced subjects, ensuring students are well-prepared for the ever-evolving landscape of their chosen fields.
What are your roles and responsibilities in this institute?
Currently, I serving as Professor & Head of the Department for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, my roles and responsibilities are quite diverse, encompassing an array of technical, educational, and leadership duties. In this role, I am responsible for maintaining the department's standards and ensuring that all activities meet the required benchmarks.
I am involved in a mix of academic leadership, research facilitation, strategic planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration, with the aim of driving the growth and success of the department within the institute. I am also involved in handling administrative tasks related to curriculum design, course schedules, faculty recruitment, and student academic progress assessments. Also working for establishing and nurturing partnerships with industry stakeholders, potentially to facilitate internships, research collaborations, and career opportunities for students.
What are some valuable insights from the programs you're offering to students?
One of the most valuable aspects of the program we offer is in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, an emerging field recognised by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and AICTE. We were the first to introduce this branch under the Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) in the year 2020 and have since nurtured it meticulously from its inception. We prioritize hands-on experience and project development, as these are crucial in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. Given the broad applications of AI and IDS across various sectors such as healthcare, hospitality, and tourism, we ensure that our students stay abreast of the latest industry trends. To achieve this, we organize workshops, seminars, and short-term training programs facilitated by expert faculty members. Our goal is to prepare our students to excel as professionals who can contribute meaningfully to both society and the industry.

How do you bring an industry-oriented approach towards subjects?
To adopt an industry-oriented approach towards subjects, we focus on integrating skill development into our curriculum. We emphasize project-based learning, starting as early as the second year of study. Second-year students are paired with senior students to gain exposure to the development process, problem analysis, and proposing solutions. Our projects are designed to address real-time problems faced by industries, such as creative object identification models. This practical approach allows students to apply their theoretical knowledge to solve current industry challenges. Additionally, we incorporate skill development activities within specific subjects to promote peer learning and collaboration between junior and senior students. We also organize a series of workshops, technical events, and cultural events, where students actively participate in organizing and conducting activities. These experiences prepare students for the demands of the industry and make them industry-ready upon graduation.
What is the top priority of your institute in the upcoming years?
In the upcoming years, our institute aims to elevate its position even further. Our top priority, as per the vision of our director, is to attain autonomy and establish ourselves as one of the leading institutes. We aspire to see our institute recognized at the highest level of excellence. Moreover, we are committed to ensuring the success of our students. We strive to place them in prestigious companies and foster a culture of entrepreneurship. Our goal is to empower our students to become job creators rather than just job seekers. To support this vision, we have established an Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) within our institute, and many of our students have already excelled in this endeavour. Additionally, we have forged collaborations with foreign universities, such as the University of Valencia, where our students undertake internships.
Any suggestions you want to provide to students and aspiring youth?
My main suggestion to students, “Cultivate a mindset of continuous learning and growth to adapt to the dynamically evolving professional landscape. Always open to new experiences, challenges, and knowledge acquisition opportunities”.
I want to tell students that, despite the many opportunities available, they must prioritise skill development and hard work. In today's world, where technology has made tasks seemingly easier, many students resort to shortcuts and opt for smart work over hard work. While smart work is commendable, it should not replace diligence and dedication. I urge students to understand that success requires sustained effort and commitment. I encourage students to participate in various activities and explore different interests but I emphasise that their primary focus should be on their career aspirations. These formative years are crucial and dedicating oneself to personal and professional growth during this time is imperative. The world awaits their potential, and with determination and hard work, they can achieve their goals.
