Latest GMAT Testing Updates due to Coronavirus Outbreak

GMAC, the conducting body of GMAT takes special effort to stop the spreading impact of COVID 19. Due to this epidemic outbreak, GMAT testing has been suspended in many locations due to safety issues. All across the world, it is a challenging issue for the test takers to take GMAT. GMAC decides for the interim GMAT exam to take control of this epidemic situation. Exam comprises the same structure and scoring scale as the original one. Syllabus of GMAT includes sections like Quant, IR, and Verbal except for AWA. Geoffrey Basye, spokesperson of GMAC told that this interim GMAT exam will be available online from mid of April.

As COVID-19 wrecks havoc in multiple parts of the world, the World Health Organization has declared it as a public health emergency. The Graduate Management Admission Council without wasting much time has suspended the conduct of the GMAT examination.

As per the latest updates, the GMAT centers conducting the GMAT examinations are closes till the first week of April. However, it is quite possible that this will be further extended, given the lockdown situation in India.

As far as the centers which are still open to conduct the GMAT examination, enhanced health and safety measures are in place including enhanced cleaning procedures, hand sanitizer and wipes are provided for exam taking candidates.

As the situation unfolds with every passing day, it has become even more important to stay up to date regarding any news that breaks out from GMAC.

However, now the questions arise as to what is to be done if the candidate is having the exam during which the center is suspended to conduct it and what can be done by the students.

An alternative solution in the making!

With the news of the suspension of multiple centers around the world, GMAC has prepared itself for a new alternative to the GMAT examination. This test will offer a comparable structure, time and scoring as the exam delivered in the test centers. It is also made public that, the Verbal, IR, and Quant will have the same number of items and time for completion.

To get this up and running the various security protocols and check-in will be modified to accommodate online delivery and remote proctors will be used to manage test integrity.

This alternative solution will be offered at a lower price point than the standard GMAT exam to support the test-takers as well as the conducting centers during an unprecedented time.

Candidate's Approach if the GMAT exam is scheduled at a test center that is closed

It is important to note that amid COVID-19, most of the GMAT examinations are either being rescheduled or are getting canceled. In any case i.e. cancellation or rescheduling of the examination, a full refund of the test fees is being provided.

Candidates will be given updates through the registered email id. The mail will indicate if the exam has been rescheduled or has been canceled.

In case, the candidate does not want a refund for the GMAT test that has been canceled automatically, a reschedule request would be required to set up by the examinee. It is also advised that while rescheduling your appointment, please keep in mind that other countries are placing travel restrictions on those in affected areas.

Thus, it’s recommended that you check it, before scheduling a new appointment in a different country or city

The candidates can also reach to the regional Customer Service center for further support in rescheduling an appointment.

When to expect the refund, if the GMAT appointment is canceled?

If the candidate has made the payment through your credit card, the refund amount will be automatically refunded within 3-5 days of receiving the cancellation confirmation email.
