CUET UG 2024 will now be held in hybrid mode, i.e., both in offline and CBT mode. NTA Chairman has confirmed through media that all subjects will be held in single shift and there will be no normalization of CUET marks.
Previously, until last year, CUET exam was conducted on multiple days and shifts for the same subject. CUET result was released based on these normalized percentile scores of the candidates. To adjust the difficulty level across days and shifts, NTA used CUET score normalization process.
The method used by NTA for CUET score normalization is the equipercentile method. Using this process, the percentile for each candidate is calculated by comparing his/ her raw marks to the raw marks of other candidates. These CUET scores are then equated to arrive at the normalized score on a common scale. Check CUET 2024 Score vs Percentile
CUET merit list is prepared by universities on the basis of CUET normalized marks. Admission to the UG courses in universities will be based on the eligibility criteria for admission to undergraduate courses.
As per the official CUET notification, the NTA is planning to do away with CUET Normalization process. Instead, NTA will conduct the exam in hbrid mode on a single day. In case, the exam is conducted on multiple shifts due to unavoidable circumstances, then normalization of marks will be considered for score calculation.

Need of CUET 2024 Normalization of Marks
CUET exams awere conducted in multiple shifts. It was tough to maintain the same level of questions in all shifts. It might happen that some shifts will get an easy set of questions while others will get a moderate to a difficult set of questions. Therefore, to prevent any discord, the conducting body used the normalization of marks.
During admission, universities were considering the CUET normalized marks along with their other eligibility criteria. NTA specified that admission should not be conducted based on the percentile score of candidates in CUET exam.

CUET 2024 Normalization of Marks
CUET exam is conducted for admission to different undergraduate courses in several universities across India. It is evident that exams conducted for the same subject on different days and different shifts would give different percentiles for every group of students. Apart from this, another problem arises while using a percentile is that in courses like Fine Arts or Sports weightage to skills (for example 20%-25%) is given by various universities. To prepare the rank list, raw marks cannot be added to skill and the remaining weightage of percentile together.
Therefore, the use of the equipercentile method is recommended by the conducting body to prepare the rank list.

What is NTA Score in CUET?
To calculate the score in CUET, the equipercentile method is followed. The raw score of the candidate (score obtained in CUET exam) will be normalized through the use of the equipercentile process. Each candidate’s percentile will be calculated using the raw score compared to the raw score of other candidates who appeared for the exam in the same shift. The percentile obtained is equated and then converted to normalized scores.
CUET Score and Percentile Calculator
CUET score calculator is basically the NTA score calculator post the normalization process. Calculating the raw marks is very easy as you just need to follow the marking scheme of CUET UG 2024 examination. But the calculation of CUET NTA score is complex as it involves multiple steps, formulas, and linear interpolation technique. In brief, the steps involved in calculation of CUET score involve:
- Converting raw scores into percentile scores for each shift using the formula:
P = (m/N) x 100, where
P is the percentile score of the candidate,;
m is the number of candidates with score less than the raw score of the particular candidate,;
N is the total number of candidates in the shift
For example, there are 3 students from shift 1 (A, B,C) and 3 from shift 2 (D, E, F). Now, following step 1, we calculate the percentiles of each student:

- Combine the marks and percentile of each session: Club the data for each shift in a single table including separate columns for each shift’s raw scores, percentile, and candidate ID. The arrangement has to be done in the descending order of percentile calculated in step 1.
Now, continuing with the example in step 1, the combined table will look like the one shown below:

- Calculation of the missing figures of raw scores for each candidate using the linear interpolation technique: In the above example, you can see that E and D have no entries in Raw scoreS 1 column while A and B have no entry in the Raw score S2 column as no other candidate scored similar in the blank shift. No, to fill these columns, NTA uses the linear interpolation formula:

Now, after calculating all the interpolated values, the table will look like:

- Calculation of the Normalized Score: For each subject, a normalized score value is calculated against the percentile value in each session. The normalized score is calculated as the average of the raw scores calculated in the above step:

How to Calculate CUET Percentile?
The best way to understand how to calculate CUET percentile scores is to analyze the example illustration provided below. The steps covered under the previous section will now be illustrated through the actual example of CUET marks and percentiles.
- Compilation of Overall Data
Suppose CUET is held in 4 sessions. The shift and day-wise distribution is as follows:

Now, we take the shift-wise highest raw score and percentile score:

Then, take the shift-wise lowest raw score and percentile score:

- Now, we follow step 1 of score calculation, i.e conversion of raw scores into percentile for each candidate in each shift.
- Pull back the percentile to marks scale for each session in the descending order of percentile and calculate the missing raw score columns using the interpolation method to arrive at the fully compiled data for calculating the CUET normalized score.
- Now, calculate the normalized score as an average of the raw scores to arrive at the final CUET percentile and normalized marks:

CUET Scorecard 2024
CUET scorecard 2024 will be made available once the CUET 2024 Result is out. NTA will release the CUET 2024 result by July 30, 2024. Students can download their scorecard from the official website - exams.nta.ac.in/CUET-UG/

CUET Score vs Percentile
The table below shows the score and percentile for all subjects except general test. For general test paper, the score range for a 100 percentile is 220 to 250. Students can use the following figures to know what would be their percentile with these score ranges.
| Score Range | Percentile |
|---|---|
| 200 - 188 | 100 |
| 187 - 170 | 99 |
| 169 - 150 | 98 - 97 |
| 149 - 130 | 96 - 95 |
| 129 - 110 | 94 - 93 |
| 109 - 90 | 92 - 90 |
| 89 - 80 | 89 - 84 |
| 79 - 70 | 83 - 80 |
| 69 - 60 | 79 - 75 |
| 59 - 50 | 74 - 70 |
| 49 - 40 | 69 - 55 |
| 39 - 20 | 54 - 30 |

CUET 2024 Normalization of Marks FAQs
Ques. How is normalization done in CUET?
Ans. Normalization in CUET is done based on equipercentile method to provide equity to students who appeared in the CUET exam in the same subject but in different shifts. Also, the rank list will be prepared by universities based on the CUET 2023 Normalization of Marks.
Ques. Do marks increase in normalization?
Ans. No, marks do not increase in the normalization of marks. Normalization is done using the equi-percentie method on the basis of raw scores obtained by candidates in CUET exam.
Ques. Do marks decrease after normalization?
Ans. No, marks do decrease or increase in normalization. Normalization is done using the equi-percentie method on the basis of raw scores obtained by candidates in CUET exam.
Ques. What is CUET Normalization of Marks?
Ans. CUET normalization of marks is done to give fair marks to all students irrespective of the exam shifts they have appeared in. The method used in normalization of marks is called equipercentile method.
