NLSIU Bangalore will not accept CLAT, rather conduct its own test for the 2020-21 academic session
National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore has decided to opt-out of the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) in 2020 and will take a home-based online entrance test for 2020. Recently, the announcement was made by NLSIU Bangalore that it will take its own online entrance test to offer admissions to the qualifying students to various law programs. The NLAT is slated to be conducted on September 12, 2020. The entrance test will be taken for two programs including LLM and LLB. The decision was taken after CLAT 2020 was extended till September 28. If NLSIU is not able to complete admissions by the end of September 2020, then it will result in a 'Zero Year' with no admission.

NLAT Application Form 2020
NLSIU Bangalore has announced the application form of NLAT 2020 on its new admission portal. Candidates planning to apply in this test can fill the application form till September 10, 2020 only. Candidates interested to apply for NLAT must register at the admission portal and submit the application form by submitting all the mandatory documents.
NLAT 2020 Application Form Reservation Criteria
To claim the category reservation, it is important that candidates provide their category details. Here, candidates can enter his category in the following terms.
- Karnataka state category
- National caste category
- PWD or not
Candidates belonging to PWD category are allowed to write NLAT, their disabilities will not act as a hurdle to get selected for a law course. Thus, the NLSUI Bangalore have taken steps in the favor of disable candidates that allow them to appear for the examination of NLAT 2020. Different set of instructions is announced by NLSIU for the persons and students who have some kind of Disabilities but want to give the National Law Aptitude Test. By following these instructions, even the PWD category candidates will be allowed to get admissions in law colleges for studies in legal fields.
NLAT Guidelines for PWD Candidates
The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bengaluru has announced a separate key of instructions for the candidates belonging to Persons with Disabilities (PWD). Candidates who will be writing the National Law Aptitude Test (NLAT) for NLSIU admissions are offered certain assumptions as compared to the unreserved category candidates.
All the PWD candidates will get another 15 minutes extra time to write the NLAT exam at both UG and PG levels. It includes those PWD candidates as well who use a scribe while giving the exam.
Some other instructions in addition to this which has been issued to the candidates with benchmark disabilities are discussed below:
- PWD candidates having visual impairment, cerebral palsy and locomotor disability (in case where both arms are affected) can use the services of a Scribe.
- PWD candidates having some other kind of benchmark disabilities can also use the services of a Scribe. However, they are entitled to submit sufficient medical certificates that showcase their disability to write the exam. The form that these candidates can fill is available in the NLSIU notification.
- PWD candidates have to select their own Scribe and submit a Letter of Undertaking related to the same. The prescribed form related to this will be provided in the NLSIU notification.
- Candidates asking to use scribe services must have minimum educational qualification of the matriculation (Class 10 pass) or similar.
- The maximum educational qualification of the Scribe must not be more than the candidate's own qualifications.
- All the candidates with PWD category eyeing to use the services of a Scribe are supposed to fill in the required fields in the ‘Reservations Tab’ of their Application Form.
- Also, they must upload all the supporting documents on the NLSIU Admissions Portal at admissions.nls.ac.in.
This way NLSIU can be well aware before for the students who are appearing for the examination and have some disabilities and further would be availing the services of a scribe for the completion of the examination.

NLAT 2020 Eligibility Criteria
The minimum eligibility criteria to be followed in case planning to give the NLAT Test. There are no amendments in the NLAT 2020 application form.
- BA LLB Course - Candidates apply for a UG law course must have studied Class 12th from a recognized institute/board. They must have scored at least 45% marks; however, candidates belonging to SC/ST category must have minimum 40% marks in their qualifying exam.
- LLM course- Candidates apply for a PG law course must have obtained a graduation degree in law from a university recognised by the Bar Council of India. Also, another condition to apply in these exams is that the candidates must have scored minimum 50% marks. SC and ST category candidates are allowed to apply with 45% marks.
NLAT 2020 FAQs
Ques. Will Persons with Disabilities be allowed using the services of a Scribe?
Ans. Yes, PWD candidates can use these services in case they have visual impairment, cerebral palsy and locomotor disability in which both of their arms are affected. In case they have any of these disabilities, they are allowed to use the services of a Scribe.
Also, PWD candidates with other types of benchmark disabilities (excluding visual impairment, cerebral palsy and locomotor disability (both arms affected)) can get services of a Scribe. They will get the services only in case they can produce enough medical certificates that state their disability and reveal their physical limitation to write, as per the pro forma provided here ( Appendix I).
Ques. I am a PWD category candidate, do I have to produce some extra documents?
Ans. PWD candidates can select their Scribe and submit a Letter of Undertaking which ensures:
- The minimum educational qualification of the Scribe is matriculation (Class 10 pass) or equivalent.
- The maximum educational qualification of the Scribe does not exceed the candidate’s own qualifications.
The Scribe will also need to submit a picture of a Government ID.
Ques. Will I get additional time if I am a PWD candidate?
Ans. Yes all the PWD category candidates will get extra 15 minutes time for completing their exam.
