What Students Say
Likes
- It was impressive to see the diversity of students at the college. I particularly enjoyed the great location and the spaciousness of the college campus. Because the campus is located at the edge of Vancouver, there are many trails, beaches, and treks within walking distance. There were all sorts of amenities on campus.
Dislikes
- Due to its distance from the city, the campus was somewhat inconvenient when we wanted to travel outside. It is also very difficult for students who live off campus to travel to college because the college is practically on the outskirts of Vancouver, making the journey to and from college quite difficult.
Required Exams for Admission
University of British Columbia had a very good ranking for engineering. Also, compared to other colleges, the admission process was very straightforward and hence easier to complete. As for the program, UBC had an amazing soil engineering department with amazing faculty. I had a memorable time at UBC, although it had to be cut short due to COVID-19. There was a lot of opportunities presented by UBC, most of which I did not take advantage of.
Course Curriculum
The syllabus was very well planned and we had plenty of exposure to research experiences as well.
Faculty
The Civil Department's faculty were highly proficient and were amongst the best in the field.
Campus Life
There is always something happening at the campus, may it be sports, events, or club activities. Hence the campus was always lively.
Placement
The research opportunities are quite rare but very fulfilling, along with great stipends. As for the placement, only those who got into Co-op program were exposed to companies and information regarding salaries.
Accommodation
I stayed outside campus with my friends. We had taken a 4 BHK flat for the 4 of us and the rent was around $750 per head monthly. As for the amenities such as water, electricity, heating, phone bill and WiFi, we have to spend roughly $150 per head.
Exams
I did not have any specific test rounds of interviews. Since my GPA was sufficient, I was given direct acceptance. I had submitted 3 LORs, 2 separate SOP (one for college, the other for Visa). I did not submit the CV as I did not have work experience at the time.
Scholarship
I did not receive any scholarship from the University as well as from Canada.
