What Students Say
Likes
- Admissions were very helpful and insightful. Financial aid helped give me tips and helped with questions I had. My instructors are always available with any questions and go over the top to make sure I have the help I need. It’s absolutely the best college I’ve ever picked.
Dislikes
- I do wish the Dental students had a better cafeteria and places to go study, as the main campus has a hot cafe with hot food and we only have microwaves and vending machines.
In New Brunswick, there is only one English college that has a Dental Assistant course. I had looked at going to PEI, but their program and instructors seemed cold and distant. When I went to Oulton open house everyone was so bright and cheerful and seemed to genuinely care about my education. They took me on a tour of the dental clinic, the expectations, and tips and tricks on how to get started. They genuinely cared for my education whether I was going to Oulton or another college, and they really won me over. My experience has been amazing! The coursework is fulfilling, and my instructors help in anyway they can. Any problems I had were resolved and handled very professionally. They have realistic expectations and the community is very welcoming. You definitely will feel proud to go to Oulton and will feel heard and respected, with amazing job prospects.
Course Curriculum
My course curriculum is very updated. All my instructors are industry professionals who regularly update the curriculum and review it. Oulton is Private, which allows them to have better access to research and industry exposure.
Faculty
In my year there are 150 students in Dental Assisting. The classes are broken up into 3 groups which is roughly 50 students each class. It may seem like a lot but the instructors are very helpful. They are all very approachable, sweet and kind and do genuinely care about your education. I’ve never had a problem! I’ve even had an issue with my name, where I had a preferred name and they all adapted to using it immediately!
Campus Life
The dental college is not very big, but it does have 2 vending machines, a big lunch room with microwaves and a very fancy water machine. There’s WIFI, and you do have access to the main college building where you can go for student services and study areas. There are no extracurricular activities, but your classmates are very welcoming and you create your own big little community together.
Placement
I haven’t gotten to the post-study opportunities yet, but we do have a 5-week practicum at a dental office and most of the time that office will hire the student.
Accommodation
THERE ARE NO DORMS!!! There is a huge housing problem in Moncton and you usually have to room with 2-3 people to be able to afford rent. I currently live with my partner and his best friend, and our rent is cheap at 1445$. The average roommate cost is 600-1000$.
Exams
- The requirements if you are an international student is your Student Visa, pass an English Comprehension Test, and all regular student admissions. - Alberta: ELA - 70 (12th), Social - 69 (12th) Science - 75 (12th) - Requirements: For Dental Assistant/Dental Hygiene students, vaccinations, doctor clearance, Vulnerable Sector and Background check, and 4 hours minimum shadowing a dental clinic are required. Vaccinations include Tuberculosis shots, HepB shots, flu, and Tdap. - Interview Round: No, the only interview I had was when I first applied at the open house, in which I showed my high school transcript and was accepted.
Fees
As a Canadian citizen, my tuition is roughly 18,900$ for the whole year (it’s only a one-year program.) this does not include the 1000$ certification exam you MUST take in May. Funding/student loans I got from the government was 30k$ and allowed me a good chunk of money to live off for the year.
Scholarship
No scholarships, but I did get government Bursaries for low income in New Brunswick.
