Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- Easy to manage expenses. You can work part-time in Canada but not in the USA.
- The weather is better. It's a seashore area where you can enjoy the weather. I will have more time to find a job than in the USA.
- MACS in Dal is course-based, while in the USA, it is thesis-based.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- Possible reasons for rejections
- High Competition: UBC, U Toronto, and Ohio have high competition and low acceptance rates.
- My GPA was not that good for these universities
- Less Research Experience: I don't have more research experience in india

Tips to enhance your application
- To enhance your application, you should have a good ATS-friendly resume and SOP with no grammatical errors and show your enthusiasm to be a part of the university.
- Have at least 3 LORs prepared before you apply.
- Give the professors the LoR; they will send them to the universities.
Admission Experience
- I chose Canada because it is more affordable, and the fees are less compared to the USA.
- Immigration and PR opportunities in Canada are better than in the USA. Dalhousie has a good reputation and has a good world university ranking, i.e., under 500.
- I like the courses and programs offered; i.e., MACS is a good program to learn. Hard to find opportunities. Halifax as a city was really good. We can find Canadians here, like any other place in Canada.
- The tech market is not that good overall. It's hard to find full-time opportunities right now. Hope the market gets better.
Class Schedule
- I usually have 20 classes in a week. Class timings lie between 9:30 AM and 5:30 PM from Monday to Friday.
- The average strength of the class is around 100. In my batch, there are 90 Indians out of 100.
- Around 20 hours a week on assignments and self-study are utilised. It's just like a full-time opportunity.
Faculty
- The faculty-to-student ratio is good; it is around 20-25 students for a professor.
- I can say Dr. Lu Yang, Dr. Saurabh Dey, Dr. Srini, and Dr. Sampangi are the best professors I have ever studied with or worked under.
- Only Professor Lu Yang helped in getting job opportunities through their references. Others, they don't help much.
Campus Life
- Dalhousie has three campuses: two in Halifax and one in Truro.
- Campuses have a Library, Gym, Ice Hockey stadium, Football ground, Medical center, church, etc. Mine is Dalhousie University, Studley campus.
- There are many events held by the international centre at the university. I was also part of them as well as the international club.
Part Time Jobs
- Most students prefer to work on-campus but if they don't find a job, they look for off-campus jobs.
- Most jobs are minimum-wage jobs. It is difficult to get on-campus jobs but it is easy to find part-time jobs in Halifax now.
- We can apply in person or on Indeed, or you can just apply on the career page to apply for a job.
- I got the TA opportunity there. There are many master's students who get TA opportunities because there are many students. I cannot disclose the pay; it depends on hours but it's almost double the minimum wage.
- Other on-campus jobs give the minimum hourly wage. It's hard to find these jobs. On campus, there is no restriction on several hours but off campus, it is 24 hours per week.
Placement
- 30% of the batch secured a job within the last 6 months.
- The average salary is around 65K.
- Students find jobs but get full-time opportunities after co-op or by applying online through career pages, Glassdoor, or LinkedIn.
- The highest salary is 100K and the lowest salary is 45K, as I have heard from friends or online.
Accommodation
- I used online platforms like LinkedIn, Glassdoor, and Indeed for the job opportunities here.
- I am facing challenges regarding the job because the job market is not good and its difficult to get opportunities and jobs here.
- Just apply, make connections, and do cold emailing; those are my suggestions to get a good job.
