Ques. Should I go for B.Tech Information Technology in DTU or BE Computer Science and Business Systems in Thapar University?

Ans. I was in COBS at Thapar. The curriculum is better than CSE, and relevant subjects like Discrete Maths are taught from the first semester itself. The only downside is that there are only 65 students in the 2020 batch, so interaction with COE students was limited. In COE, the curriculum is outdated, and the strength is around 300, which makes it a bit challenging to achieve a good CGPA, but the academics are fairly easy! Also, there are no placement statistics for COBS since the branch was started in 2019.Read more

Ques. How are the placements of chemical engineering at Thapar University?

Ans. At present, the average salary for B.Tech Chemical graduates of Thapar University is around 8 LPA. Some recruiters for the department are- Reliance, OCCL, HMEL, JUBILANT Life Sciences, Ambuja Cement, Johnson Matthey, JSW Steel, Deloitte, Agilent Technologies, Honeywell UOP, Zunroof Tech Pvt Ltd, Tech Mahindra, and others. The department placements are, unfortunately, declining year on year. The B.E. Chemical on campus placement percentage barely touches the 50% mark. And this figure is obtained by taking into account only eligible candidates. A few students receive PPOs in their internships while some are selected off campus in companies like Udaan(Hiveloop Technologies), Vardhman, Jaypee fertilizers, Ind Swift, Zomato, etc.  Thus, the placement figures are not very impressive for BE Chemical at Thapar University.Read more

However, as per the official UG placement data for the batch of 2023, 83% UG students were successfully placed from the campus. The highest CTC stood at Rs. 55.75 LPA, and the average CTC stood at Rs. 11.90 LPA.  The list of top recruiters for CSE department of Thapar University includes JP Morgan, Amazon, American Express, Apple, Deloitte, DE Shaw and Co, Samsung, and many other such brand names.Read more

Ans. Both Mechanical from Thapar University and Metallurgy at NIT Durgapur are great options. However, if you want to attach a NIT tag to your degree, then NIT Durgapur is a great option.  The Metallurgy and Material Science branch at NIT Jamshedpur has a decent faculty pool with a mix of good and bad professors. Additionally, companies like Tata Steel, JCAPCPL, and many more visit during placements. Ans. There are several factors that you need to consider while making a choice.  NIT Kurukshetra is definitely much more economical than Thapar. There was a time when Thapar was superior to NIT Kurukshetra. But with time, things have changed a lot for both the colleges.  At NIT Kurukshetra, the teaching quality varies with departments. Most professors are very learned and supportive. The professors of ECE department are quite learned. However, they are also very strict with their students. The placements are good at both. You can check the placement scenario at Thapar and NIT Kurukshetra .  NIT Kurukshetra and Thapar are both good colleges and have their own strengths and weaknesses.Read more

Investment Outlook: MSIT can be considered better, in terms of investment, than SRM University. It is because the fees of SRM University are very high, alongside the various expenditures involved with it. This means, your costs will automatically double during the course of time pursuing your B.Tech. Placement Reports: In terms of placements, both the universities are equally exposed to the industrial side. Institute MSIT, Delhi SRM University Average CTC INR 4 LPA INR 10 LPA Highest CTC INR 55 LPA INR 41.6 LPA Top Recruiting Companies Google, Infosys, Microsoft IDC, Adobe, Accenture, TCS, MuSigma Google, Microsoft, Optum, Deloitte, Capgemini, Schneider Electric, IBM Campus Life: Speaking of campus life, both the institutes are good in their own way. Ans. If you are considering the main SRM campus, you don’t need to hesitate. The campus is quite good. The faculties might not be great, but there are departments where they are found to be standard. The hostels however are not quite up to the mark, so you can opt to search for a PG. The student crowd is quite impressive. You will be among talented peers. Also, SRM has a standard placement record.  Additionally, the other bonus point is that this institute is one of the most known private universities all through India. VIT, Manipal, BITS being the other three, while Thapar RVCE and so on follow straightaway. A brief highlight of both institutes is briefed below. Parameters  SRM Sonepat UPES Average CTC 12.50 LPA 45 LPA Highest CTC 5.11 LPA 5.25 LPA Fees 10.85 lakhs 13.85 lakhs If you want to go for Mechanical Engineering, then you must go to SRM Sonepat. Ques. Is CSE good at SRM Sonepat?

Ans. SRM Sonepat is still in its developing phase. You won’t get your money’s worth there. There are only 3 B.Tech batches that have passed out. Most placement offers are either from the marketing sector or business analysts. Just 5% of the students get job offers in core sectors of their specific streams but with a very low package. The faculty is also not that good. You can get better teachers even in certain coaching institutes where your total expense can climb up to only 6-10k for a valuable cause. You can also get various other colleges at almost the same fees, such as HMR, LPU, AMITY, SHARDA, JAYEEE, SRM Chennai, VIT, and several others. They might charge you more than the average amount, but you will be provided better faculty and facilities. The study environment in SRM Sonepat is not good neither is the student crowd.  The Civil and Mechanical branches have acquired nearly zero placement (except only a handful of 2–3 students) for the past couple of years. The students who pass out are mostly offered jobs that are not related to their actual branch.  So, it will be better if you don’t keep SRM Sonepat as one of your options.Read more
