PIET Diploma Mechanical Engg {Lateral} FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between the regular Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and the Lateral Entry Diploma at PIET?
Ans. The regular Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is a 3-year programme open to Class 10 pass candidates. The Lateral Entry Diploma is a 2-year programme for candidates who have already completed an ITI (2 years), 10+2 with PCM, or a 10+2 vocational course. Lateral entry students are admitted directly to the 2nd year (3rd semester) of the diploma, saving one year of study. The annual fee is the same (Rs. 70,000/year) for both programmes.
Ques. How many seats are available in the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering {Lateral} at PIET Panipat?
Ans. The sanctioned seat intake for the Lateral Entry Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at PIET is only 9 seats. Of these, 75% (approximately 7 seats) are filled through HSTES LEET counselling and 25% (approximately 2 seats) are management quota seats filled at the institute level. Given the very limited intake, candidates are advised to register early and keep track of HSTES notifications.
Ques. Can an ITI graduate in a non-mechanical trade apply for the Lateral Entry Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at PIET?
Ans. As per HSTES norms, the ITI qualification must be in a relevant trade related to mechanical engineering. Candidates with ITI in trades such as Fitter, Turner, Machinist, Welder, Sheet Metal Worker, and similar mechanical trades are generally eligible. Candidates with ITI in unrelated trades may not be eligible. It is advisable to check the HSTES Diploma Prospectus for the specific list of eligible ITI trades each year.
Ques. After completing the Lateral Entry Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from PIET, can I apply for B.Tech lateral entry?
Ans. Yes. After completing the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (including the lateral entry variant) with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST), candidates are eligible to apply for lateral entry (LEET) into the 2nd year of B.Tech Mechanical Engineering. PIET itself offers B.Tech {Lateral} in Mechanical Engineering, and admission is through the HSTES B.Tech LEET counselling.
Ques. Is the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering {Lateral} at PIET recognised by AICTE and HSBTE?
Ans. Yes. The Diploma in Mechanical Engineering {Lateral} at PIET is approved by AICTE and affiliated to the Haryana State Board of Technical Education (HSBTE), Panchkula. The diploma awarded upon completion is recognised by the Government of Haryana and is valid for employment and further education purposes.
Ques. What documents are required at the time of admission to the Lateral Entry Diploma at PIET?
Ans. Candidates must bring three attested sets of the following documents: ITI/10+2 marksheet and pass certificate, Class 10 pass certificate (for date of birth proof), school leaving/character certificate, migration certificate, gap year proof (if applicable), medical fitness certificate, HSTES seat allotment letter, registration fee receipt (Rs. 1,000), caste/income/residence certificate (for reserved category candidates), Aadhaar card, bank passbook photocopy, Family ID (for Haryana residents), and ten coloured passport-size photographs.
