Ques. How is the M.Tech atmosphere (workload) in SVNIT Surat in mechanical engineering?

● Top Answer By Amit Sharma on 09 Jan 24

Ans. The workload for M.Tech Mechanical students is quite manageable at SVNIT.  In the first year of M.Tech, one has to complete the coursework and attend classes from 8:30 am to 5:40 pm. In the second year, one has to complete the dissertation work and Teaching Assistant Duty (which is for 8 hours per week). SVNIT offers five M.Tech specializations in the related fields. These are- Mechanical Engineering, CAD/CAM, Thermal System Design, Turbo Machines and Manufacturing Engineering. The workload varies from department to department. One gets ample time to prepare for competitive exams as an M.Tech Mechanical student over here. Most people in M.Tech Mechanical do not attend classes regularly, and instead prepare for their entrance exams. So you need not worry on the attendance front. Read more

Ques. How is the placement of an MTech in mechanical engineering from SVNIT, Surat? Does core companies offer placement to MTech candidates?

● Top Answer By Amit Sharma on 06 Jan 24

Ans. The placement is not good for M.Tech courses. Pursuing an M.Tech from SVNIT is a better option if one wishes to prepare for competitive exams simultaneously. Taking out time for preparation isn’t difficult if one is focused and disciplined. In 2022,18 students were successfully placed on campus from M.Tech Mechanical. The highest package was 9.42 LPA, the average package was 6.86 LPA, and the lowest package was 5 LPA. As for M.Tech Manufacturing, 21 students were successfully placed on campus. The highest package was 9.58 LPA, the average package was 6.29 LPA, and the lowest package was 4.80 LPA.  Some M.Tech specializations like Computer Science, Communications System, CAD/CAM and Structure receive a few core companies for placements. But that number is far from satisfactory. Moreover, very few people are selected for these jobs. Mechanical, Thermal System Design, SMFE and MSc. Physics, mainly receive teaching offers.  Thus, the placements for M.Tech Mechanical are not satisfactory at SVNIT. Read more

Ques. How are the placements at NIT Surathkal for an M.Tech in thermal?

● Top Answer By Arindam Chakraborty on 15 Sept 23

Ans. In all engineering colleges, BTech students are given more preference than MTech students because they can do the job at a lesser salary than MTech students. Moreover, they are more in number and are ready to grab any role whatsoever. MTech students on the other hand prefer core jobs that align with their academic profile and specific interests. So the placement opportunities offered to Masters students are less. Mostly, they have two options to choose from, academia or corporate.  Academics: Many institutes offer teaching positions to master students either as a college professor or for the role of an instructor at an Entrance Exam preparation institute, Master students of the Thermal branch are eligible for these roles.  Corporate: The Mechanical department students are often recruited by companies like GE, Mercedes, Bosch, Yazaki, Alstom, etc. do come for recruitment. The requirements vary each year. In reality, the chances of landing a job as an MTech student at NIT Surathkal depend on the market rather than the institute. NITK offers a great research culture that instills all the necessary skills. The placements are unpredictable though. Ultimately I will advise you to opt for a Master’s degree only if you are really interested in getting a specialization degree because there is no guarantee you’ll get a job in the end.Read more

Ques. What is your review on NIT Silchar for M.tech in mechanical engineering?

● Top Answer By Lipika Chakraborty on 24 Aug 23

Ans. NIT Silchar is a prestigious engineering college that imparts quality education in various fields. However, the PG courses aren't very well-known and only the UG courses have gained fame over time. It is therefore advisable to check the profiles of the teachers in the respective department. Additionally, NIT Silchar is located in a remote location and you might find it difficult to procure your equipment for projects. MTech depends on the quality of the research and project you have completed and if you fail to accomplish it your MTech degree is invaluable.  Most companies visiting NIT Silchar prefer BTech students to MTech students. So getting a good job let alone a core job is very difficult here. The institute has no international ties so your future prospects may narrow down further. Consider all the above factors before making your final decision!Read more

Ques. How was your interview experience for IIT Gandhinagar for an MTech in mechanical engineering?

● Top Answer By Anisha Srivastav on 27 Jul 23

Ans. My brother had to appear for an online interview because he applied during the corona time. He joined Google Meet on time and began with his introductions. The interviewers asked him a number of questions like Describe the college you did your bachelor's from and the placement scenario there Is there any topic you are most comfortable with for the technical questions? What is compressible flow and compressible fluid? what is internal energy? PV^? what are its assumptions? Define isoentropic process dh = M Cp dt where can we apply this? Is it valid for gases only? Define Cp and Cv For solids why do we use Q=mcdt .what is C here? Why is solid C constant here? Basically, he was bombarded with a lot of technical questions although they helped him a lot. From the interview experience, he arrived at the conclusion that to ace the interview one must have revised the notes he/she prepared while studying for GATE. Read more

Ques. What are placement opportunities for students pursuing an M.Tech in mechanical engineering from IISC, Bangalore?

● Top Answer By Mayank Trivedi on 14 Jul 23

Ans. Well honestly, once you are in the grasp of the IISc magic, you will forget about placements, and your hunger for higher studies and research will grow instead. The intense workload and the dynamic research environment will bring you close to some of the geniuses who may be pursuing a Ph.D., UG, or master's. Interacting with them will make you realize that higher studies are a better option. Some who go for jobs anyway, come back to get a PhD sometime later. This is what the IISc effect is after all. As for the IISC placements for MTech Mechanical Engineering, students receive a minimum of 8 LPA packages with no limit on top packages varying from 15-25 LPA CTC. The major recruiters include companies like TATA motors, TATA steel, TCS research, Mahindra motors, Philips, Airbus, General Electric, Rolls Royce, TATA advanced system, PTC, L&T, and other design, manufacturing, and petroleum companies. The best part is that students of this branch can sit for placements in companies of Aerospace, Civil, Chemical, and Material Engineering as well.  In all placements at IISc won't be an issue for either branch yet I will say again, judging a research-oriented institute like IISc on the basis of placements is not justified. Read more

Ques. Which one is better for the MTech: fluid and energy system in IIT Hyderabad or thermal in NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Bidita Ghose on 16 May 23

Ans. The better institute for MTech out of IIT Hyderabad and NIT Trichy depends on what you want to do after MTech. For those inclined towards research work and are willing to go for higher education like Ph.D. from a foreign university, IIT Hyderabad is the most suitable option. This is because it is a new IIT and thus has the best research and lab facilities in comparison to older IITs and NITs. The MTech program here will bring about a drastic change in your overall personality. For those who want to get employed as soon as possible, then NIT Trichy is a preferable choice. This is because The sole purpose of students coming here is to get placed with lucrative packages The initial days witness top firms after which only average companies pay a visit to the campus The placement percentage is almost 100% every year The teachers do it encourage research culture at all. This does not mean that IIT Hyderabad does not have placement opportunities. It’s just that for placements specifically, NIT is better but overall IIT Hyderabad is the best option.Read more
