Course Curriculum

10

  • The curriculum is up to the modern market requirements. Most of the things that are taught are currently used in the companies and the difficulty level is medium if you have correct basic knowledge about the course. The positive impact is that the research and things that are taught are the same ones that are being done in the companies.
  • There are around 3-4 classes per day, which range from 8am to 7pm. The average number of students would be 40-50 per class but it can vary depending on the subject. Around 30% students are indian

Admission Experience

  • The universities I applied to:
  • Admitted – University of Stuttgart, Karlsruhe institute of technology
  • Rejected - TU Munich, RWTH Aachen, TU Darmstadt ; before applying to the colleges, check out if the courses they provide match with the subjects you have taken in your bachelor's. If the university feels the basics required for that particular course is not sufficient, then they reject the application, except in the case you have a great cover letter
  • Availability of Power Electronics as a Major; The admission process is, you just need to fill the application form from the site and provide the necessary documents and in case of doubts, you can directly write to the admission department and they will clear your doubts and within a month or two, the results will be out and gives you ample amount of time to do your visa process. IELTS band more than 7 for courses in english; the admission process was quite smooth, not that much problems
  • I applied to the winter intake, as part 1 of most of the subjects are taught in this semester and most of the courses are offered in this semester. Apart from this, if everything goes right, the course gets finished in the month f october or november which and the next 6 months are the major hiring period for the companies. The admission process takes around 3 months. You fill out the admission form in december and the result gets out somewhere in february. There is nothing else to do during that period, but if some of the documents are missing, the uni will contact you to submit the documents

Faculty

10

  • The faculty-to-student ratio would be around 20:1, as there are guides as well, which help in the case of doubts. And the interaction with the faculty is quite easy and if you have doubts, you can book an appointment and meet them. The teaching methodology is more practical based and it's sufficient to get a job in my field. No, the faculty does not help in any way to find a job.

Campus Life

10

  • The university has 2 campuses; the first is located in vaihingen and the other is in stadtmitte. There are facilities like the library, study rooms, department libraries, and sports complex, which students can book by paying a nominal fee.
  • There are campus events like emotions, and different events in the students bar like halloween event, karaoke nights. There are also student groups which organise student trips to different places and camps.

Part Time Jobs

  • Not my students get the research assistant positions; maybe 1 in 25 get that position. The pay is around 550 euros if you are working 40 hours per month but the pay may reduce if the working hours are fewer. There are no other on-campus student jobs. Currently the hourly pay is around 15 euros/hour. Officially a student can work 20 hours per week. Its not that easy to secure a campus jobs as currently the positions are limited and the number of students are increasing and you need to have know in that domain to get the RA position
  • Most of the indian students work outside part-time jobs, like working in a zara store of amazon delivery location. But some of them are able to find work as students after some time. Currently it's hard to get a part-time job, as you need to have a minimum of b1 level german to work in any store or warehouse.
  • There are many job-searching portals like linkedin, xing, indeed, and after the selection, you will have a job interview related to the position, as to what you know in theoretical knowledge, what domain you would like to work in and if everything goes great, then you can have a job.

Placement

8

  • Around 60-80% of students are able to secure a full-time job within 6 months of graduating and the average salary that they get is around 50,000 euros per year (bruto). Mainly students apply through the job portals and there are few job fairs also going on where you can reach out to companies and sometimes you just get lucky that you google search the jobs and you get the position. Getting a job is a mix of hard work and luck.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • For accommodation, if you want to live in the student dorms, you can apply via vssw site but apply as soon as possible, as it takes a lot of time to get a dorm in the university itself. You can also go for sublets if you don't get any contract from vssw.
  • The monthly rent for accommodation is 375 euros ± 25 euros, depending on which dorm you take. The challenge is it takes a lot of time to get a dorm. The student dorms are just a 10-minute walk from the campus.

Exams

  • Only IELTS with a band of 7 is required but if you show that you had your previous studies in english then that is also not required. Transcript, letter of recommendation and cover letter are the documents that play a major role in admission. Even if you have a little bit of bad grades, if the cover letter is good, you would be considered for admission. No, there was no interview.

Fees

  • The total fees per semester are around 1700 euros, out of which 1500 euros is the tuition fee and the rest is university fees.
  • The uni fee is charged semester-wise. Apart from that, if you live in the student dorm, the monthly rent is around 375 euros and another 150 euros for medical insurance. The food costs around 100 euros and another 50 euros goes in the miscellaneous

Scholarship

  • In most of the STEM courses there are no scholarships, but if you apply to some different courses from DAAD, then there are chances you can receive a scholarship.
  • 2 of my batchmates have received any scholarship but usually the scholarship amounts to around 300 euros per month but that also depends on your financial situation. You need to have good grades during your master's and a great cover letter for the scholarship.
