What Students Say
Likes
- WUR is a great university for someone who wants to do a PhD and postdoc and settle into an academic life.
Dislikes
- But if you want to see yourself working in the industry after the master's, it's good to have a lot of connections with people already working in MNCs and other companies. You need to network a lot, really.
- Even though there is a student career services wing in the university, they don't really help a lot in the job hunting process and internship finding process.
- There's no spoon-feeding, so the student is expected to find internships and jobs by networking and sending tons of applications.
Course Curriculum
- My course syllabus is highly advanced and highly relevant according to all international standards and European standards. During the courses, students also get exposure to research through working in labs, and they go on excursions and field trips to learn practically. For example, during my studies, I went to a couple of dairy farms and interacted directly with farmers.
- I got industrial exposure through my two internships that I did for about 11 months. Additionally, I also got research experience through my thesis, which took me 1 year to complete. I got a lot of exposure to soil incubation experiments in my thesis.
- Usually, there are 2 classes scheduled in a day. For the morning course, the classes start at 8:20 am, and for some courses, they start at 10:00. In the afternoon, the classes typically start at 14:00 and end at 15:30. Most of the time, there's also group work after the classes to work on the assignments.
- The average number of students in my class is 30 to 40
Admission Experience
- The admission process of WUR is quite simple, but the students have to start the process at least 3 to 4 months before the actual deadline and apply as early as they can, even with a provisional degree certificate and provisional mark lists. In the last year of my bachelor's degree, I started taking LORs and started writing SOPs, and taking feedback from one of my seniors for SOPs and LORs. In the last semester of my bachelor's degree, I took the IELTS exam. I applied by March 2023 for the September 2023 intake. I strongly advise students not to go to consultancies and apply for any university in Europe based on their own calibre and capabilities.
- I took only the IELTS exam, and I got a score of 7.5. Apart from IELTS, I did not take any other tests
Faculty
- The faculty-to-student ratio depends on the course you take. For some courses, the strength of students is low. The faculty and the staff are really approachable and friendly; they are not at all arrogant. Students can ask any dumb question, and they don't judge people. My thesis supervisor, Moinet Gabriel, had an incredible impact on me; he helped me a lot during my thesis and also gave me a lot of useful constructive feedback.
Campus Life
- W.S.V. Ceres:
- "The Wageningen Student Corps was founded in 1878 and since then has been the place to make friends for life, for self-development, and to get the most out of your student days. With its rich history, our Association also has wonderful traditions.
- Ceres hosts the biggest parties in Wageningen. From Band Nights to a grand external Gala, a 3-day Stupéfête, nothing is too crazy here. That is why we are also known as the most fun association, where anything goes!"
- Ichtus Wageningen:
- "Welcome to Ichthus Wageningen! For 54 years, we have been a Christian association focused on faith, enjoyment, and witness. With around 40 members, we form close bonds, enjoy each other's company, and have an open atmosphere. You are warmly invited to come and visit us sometime."
- 3. Otherwise:
- "What is needed in response to the world's polycrisis to shift towards justice, liberation, and healing in our communities and beyond? How can we sense, relate, and imagine otherwise? At OtherWise, we invite participants through creative activities to embody different ways of being and stimulate discussion to politicise topics around sustainability, justice, and social change."

- There are research facilities in all buildings in the university, based on the study program; the students need to go to different labs and different buildings within the university.
Part Time Jobs
- The minimum student wage is € 14,71 per hour. Students can apply for part-time jobs through https://www.randstad.nl/. On a student residence permit, you are allowed to work up to a maximum of 16 hours per week throughout the year, or full-time in the summer months (June to August). It is difficult to get TA, RA positions unless you have a very high grade in a particular course, and you're highly outgoing and make connections with the professors.
Placement
- The % of my fellow batchmates finding employment within 6 months of completing their course is really difficult; it might take more than 1 year. Most of my batchmates are doing traineeships, and some of them are looking for full-time jobs. A very few members have already found jobs.
- The average salary range for entry-level positions for graduates ranges from 4000 to 5000 per month.
- Most students find jobs through career fairs, internships, networking, and job portals like LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, etc.
Accommodation
- The most common platform to find accommodation is https://www.room.nl/en/. There are also groups on Telegram where you can find temporary sub-rents for 2 months or 3 months.
- The monthly rent ranges from 400 to 600 euros here; it includes a bed, a table, a chair, and a wardrobe. The room area is usually 12 to 13 m^2. All the other facilities, like showers, washrooms, and the kitchen, are shared facilities.
Exams
- IELTS is required for admission to Wageningen University. You need to have one SOP and at least 3 LORs from professors at your bachelor's university.
- Make the CV in Europass format (https://europass.europa.eu/nl) and try to include all kinds of extracurricular activities and other courses or student challenges that you took at the university during your bachelor's. You can also include other online classes that you took on Coursera and edX.
Fees
- The total tuition fees of my study program range from 40,000 to 50,000 euros for the whole 2-year period.
