I think you're referring to Kumaraguru College of Technology in Coimbatore. I graduated from there in 2012. From what I've heard, the new management has led to a slight dip in the college's previous standards. These days, it seems like students are more into extracurricular activities. Overall, it doesn't really stand out compared to other colleges.
One disadvantage of studying at Kumaraguru, specifically in the Bachelor of Engineering [BE] (Aeronautical Engineering) program, is the limited placement opportunities. While other departments like CSE and EEE have more recruitment options, my course has fewer companies visiting for placements. This made it challenging for students in my field to secure good jobs compared to our peers in other branches.
In the Bachelor of Engineering [BE] (Mechanical Engineering) program, I found that even though there are decent placements, the quality of companies coming for recruitment isn't always great. Many of the companies offering jobs don't provide packages above 4-5 LPA, which is below what I expected. It's a bit disappointing when you see other branches getting better offers and opportunities.
For Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Textile Technology), one of the downsides I've experienced is the first year's curriculum, which feels less relevant to our core subjects. We spend time on basic courses like physics and chemistry, and it can be frustrating since we want to dive into our specific field right away. It only gets interesting once we reach our department in the second year.
The 2014 batch had a tough time with placements, and by 2018, many students were still without jobs. The education quality could use some work, and the atmosphere between teachers and students isn't very warm. Classes feel like a routine of attending, staying silent, taking notes, and memorizing.
There's a lack of focus on research, learning, and innovation. More support and facilities for projects could have really helped during placements.
