I graduated in 2011. From what I saw, the college seems more focused on taking money from students rather than providing good education. The management lacks ethics and doesn't treat students well. I wouldn't advise anyone to join this college. It's not the best choice unless you're okay with getting a job offer of about 2-4 LPA. Placement rates are around 60-80%.
Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology is considered one of the top private engineering colleges under UPTU. It's quite challenging to get in since 85% of the seats are filled through the UPTU entrance exam, while the remaining 15% are reserved for the management quota. Even for the management quota, having a high percentage is crucial.
I graduated from this college and landed two job offers from Infosys and Accenture. If you're aiming for a career in IT or CS, this college is a great choice. For other core fields, the opportunities are somewhat limited, but with the right skills, you can still secure offers from core companies. The placement cell is proactive in helping students get jobs.
When it comes to academics, the faculty and infrastructure are superior compared to other UPTU colleges. The campus environment is lively and reminiscent of DU, with annual fests adding to the excitement. If you're considering this college, it's a smart choice. Good luck with your decision. Just to clarify, this review is about GCET, not Galgotias University.
I graduated from GCET in 2009 with a degree in Electronics and Communication. My experience there was quite positive, mainly because of the great job opportunities. Over 75% of students got jobs, with an average salary of 3 LPA, at companies like TCS, Infosys, Satyam (back then), and HCL. Many even got offers from more than one company. The placement stats are still impressive.
Even after graduating, the college helped students who didn't get jobs or had delayed start dates. I was offered positions at Satyam and HCL, but the 2008-09 recession delayed their start. Thankfully, the college helped me secure a job at Hewitt Associates with a 2.3 LPA salary, just three months after graduation.
We mostly studied from local author books since the faculty didn't push us to use reference books, which I think should change. The college had a diverse student body, including shy but smart students, all-rounders, lazy ones, and some who were a bit arrogant. You'll definitely find your crowd there.
Being located on the highway, it's easy to reach. However, the fees have increased a lot since my time, now around 1.3 LPA, compared to about 55k per year from 2005-09.
In 2014, I was invited to speak to students after clearing the 2013 UPSC Engineering Service Exam. I met Dhruv Galgotia, and the management treated me with great respect.
Students who actively participated in committees or events are doing well today. It's crucial to step out of your comfort zone and seize opportunities. I've seen students improve their communication skills, confidence, and overall personality, while others didn't change much. As students, it's important to take the initiative and learn because no one will do it for you. Be proactive in all activities you join.
Sadly, there hasn't been an alumni meet in the past decade, which needs fixing. The hostel fees were high, so I opted for shared accommodation in Gamma sector. The labs were okay, but my lack of attention hurt me during a BARC interview when I couldn't answer simple lab questions. It's important to learn the basics.
The faculty was knowledgeable, and learning from them depended on how motivated and dedicated we were. GCET is one of the top private colleges under UPTU, and with some hard work, you can get a good job, and possibly move to big companies later on, depending on your skills. Comparing it to NITs or IITs isn't fair.
The college provides all the basics, but you need to focus on learning and building skills. Most importantly, believe in yourself and take pride in your college journey. With self-belief and persistence, you'll succeed.
