How was your experience at Galgotia College of Engineering and Technology Noida?

Galgotia College of Engineering and Technology in Noida is considered one of the top private engineering colleges under UPTU. Admission is quite competitive, with 85% of the seats filled through the UPTU entrance exam and 15% reserved for the management quota. To get in, you generally need a high rank, and even for management seats, a good percentage is necessary.

I graduated from this college and received job offers from Infosys and Accenture. If you're interested in IT or Computer Science, it's a great choice. However, if you're looking into other core fields, the opportunities are more limited. Still, if you have the right skills, you might land a job with core companies too. The placement cell works hard to ensure every student gets a job.

In terms of academics, the faculty and infrastructure are superior compared to other UPTU colleges. The campus vibe is lively, similar to that of Delhi University, and they host annual festivals. I graduated from GCET in 2009 with a degree in Electronics and Communication. My overall experience was quite positive, especially because the college offers a lot of job opportunities, which is one of its main attractions. The placement scene was strong, with over 75% of us landing jobs, and the average salary was about 3 LPA. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Satyam, and HCL were some of the recruiters. Some students even secured multiple job offers. The placement rate remains impressive.

After graduation, the college helped those of us who didn't have jobs or whose job offers got delayed. I was initially placed at Satyam and HCL, but both had postponed start dates due to the 2008-09 recession. I was without a job for a while, but thanks to the college, I got another chance and landed a job at Hewitt Associates with a 2.3 LPA salary, three months after graduation.

We mostly studied from local authors' books since the faculty didn’t force us to stick to reference books, which might need a change. The college had a diverse group of students, ranging from shy but smart ones to all-rounders, and some who were laid-back or a bit arrogant. It was easy to find your crowd.

Being located on a highway made it very accessible. The fees have gone up significantly, now around 1.3 LPA, compared to about 55k per year when I attended (2005-09). In 2014, I was invited back to speak to the students after passing the 2013 UPSC Engineering Service Exam and met Dhruv Galgotia. The management treated me with great respect.

I noticed that students active in committees or events are doing well today. It's essential to step out of your comfort zone and seize opportunities. I saw peers improve their communication skills, confidence, and personality during college, while others didn't change much. Initiative is key since no one will spoon-feed you. Be confident and try to lead in activities.

There's been no alumni meet invite in the past decade, which is something that needs fixing. The hostel fees were high, so I ended up sharing accommodation in the Gamma sector. The labs were decent, but I wasn't very attentive, which didn't help during my BARC interview when I struggled with basic lab questions. Learn the basics and skills; don't lag behind.

The faculty was knowledgeable and experienced, but learning from them depends on your motivation and dedication. GCET is among the best private colleges under UPTU. With some effort, you can secure a job with a good company and later move to top-tier companies based on your skills. Comparing the college to NITs and IITs isn't fair.

The college provides all the basic necessities, but you need to stay disciplined and focus on learning and skill development. Most importantly, believe in your ability to succeed and take pride in your alma mater. Self-belief and perseverance will help you succeed.

I graduated in 2011, so here's what I think: The college seems focused on taking advantage of students in any way possible. It lacks ethics and moral values, and the management isn't great. They don't really show much respect for the students either. Honestly, I wouldn't suggest this college to anyone. If you're only aiming for a salary between 2 to 4 LPA, then you might consider it. The overall placement rate is about 60-80%.
