How is campus life at NIT calicut??

I've been at NIT Trichy for a week, and it's been pretty busy, but I've already made a lot of friends. The campus is full of people from various places, and you'll hear many different languages. The Tamil folks are super friendly; my roommate is from Chennai and doesn't speak Hindi, yet we get along great. Knowing English helps a lot as most people communicate in it.

In the first year, we mainly get South Indian food at the mess. The food is okay, though it might not always be to the taste of those from the north. The campus is massive, around 800 acres, and I doubt I can see all of it in four years. Since I can't ride a bike yet, I get tired walking everywhere. The lecture hall is about 1.5 km from my hostel, so it takes about 15 minutes on foot.

The campus has all the facilities you could need, but it's up to you to make the most of them. If you want to join in other activities, managing your time well is key. There are lots of events; we even went on a fresher's trip to Tanjore, and there's always something happening.

Just a heads-up: even after clearing JEE, there's a lot of studying to do here, but there's also plenty of fun to be had if you manage your time well. I've had a blast this first week. Right now, I'm off to work on some matrix problems. Catch you later!

We've just wrapped up the first week of our orientation, and there's still more to come! Let me give you a peek into life at NIT Trichy. Our orientation kicked off on November 14, 2022, which is Children's Day. It was pouring rain on the day we arrived, November 11, 2022.

Despite the rain, we had a memorable photo session, document checks, and hostel assignments!

Before the orientation started, I got to check out some cool spots on campus. There were awesome events and guest lectures lined up for us by the Orientation Team! I'll be sharing more about those soon in an upcoming post!

Life on the NIT Calicut campus can be busy on some days and a bit more relaxed on others. For a typical B.Tech student, the day often starts around 7:30 am, depending on whether you decide to catch the first class. Mornings mean getting ready quickly and rushing to the mess, though skipping breakfast is common to make it to class on time.

Students usually ride their bikes from Amber Hostel to the Orion lecture hall, which is about 1.5 km away, since the campus is quite large. Classes run from 8:30 am to 12:10 pm, with a short break at 10:10 am. Some lectures are interesting, which makes the morning better. After classes, it's another 1.5 km bike ride back to the mess for lunch at 12:30 pm with friends.

The hostel rooms can get pretty warm, as Trichy is in central Tamil Nadu, and rooms are only equipped with fans. If it's a lab day (labs are twice a week), you'll need to complete your lab record beforehand, as each lab is graded out of 10. Labs can be tiring, lasting around 3 hours, but once they're done, you can finally head back to your room.

Usually, after labs, my friends and I grab some tea at the mess, which is a nice way to unwind. The campus has a Cafe Coffee Day, too. The free college wifi is pretty decent, sometimes reaching speeds up to 200mbps. On rainy days, you might even spot a beautiful rainbow over NITT.

After finishing classes and labs, the rest of the day is up to your interests. I like to hit the sports complex for badminton, table tennis, or a 5k run. I usually return around 8:30 pm, take a shower, and then head for dinner. Some evenings are spent on club activities or interview sessions for technical and fest groups.

On days without labs, afternoons are often spent studying for exams, taking naps, or learning new skills. Bappa Visarjan is celebrated, along with other technical and cultural events, and all major religious festivals are celebrated with enthusiasm.

The day wraps up with a call to family and friends who are far away. That's a glimpse into student life at NIT Trichy.
