IIT Delhi's Electrical Engineering (Power and Automation) and Electrical Engineering (core) are quite similar, with only a difference of 3–4 courses. There are department elective courses that must be completed as part of the degree requirements, allowing students in the Power and Automation program to take core Electrical Engineering courses. Therefore, students in the Power and Automation track can become equivalent to those in the core Electrical Engineering program. Ultimately, there is no significant difference between IIT Delhi's Electrical core and Power Automation. IIT Delhi's Electrical Engineering is also ranked above IIT Kanpur's Electrical Engineering.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering Power and Automation offers a strong ROI with potential internships that can lead to impressive salaries, with the highest packages hitting 3-4 crore and an average of 15 lakhs. However, the tuition fees are relatively high. In contrast, IIT Kanpur’s Electrical Engineering program has a lower tuition fee of around 1 lakh, with an average salary of 20-25 lakhs and a higher placement rate of about 80%. Both colleges provide scholarships based on academic performance, making IIT Kanpur a smarter financial choice for those looking for value for money. If you prioritize a lower fee structure and slightly better average placements, go for IIT Kanpur; but if you want to explore diverse job opportunities in both core and tech fields, IIT Delhi could be your pick.

Both IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur have their strengths, but I’d lean towards IIT Kanpur for its robust placement stats and slightly better average packages in Electrical Engineering. While IIT Delhi offers opportunities in power and automation with high internship earnings, IIT Kanpur has a curriculum that emphasizes core electrical concepts paired with coding, which I find more appealing. The campus life at both is vibrant, but IIT Kanpur seems to balance academics and extracurriculars effectively. I'd recommend IIT Delhi for someone interested in a blend of coding and engineering roles, while IIT Kanpur is perfect for those who want a solid electrical engineering foundation with excellent placement opportunities.

Before I begin, I would like to bring to your notice that I am a student of Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi, so the answer might be a bit on the biased side. Firstly, regarding your choice of college, I would recommend pursuing B.Tech Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi over IIT Kanpur. My choice is based on the following points: 1) One way to look at it is to go through the QS ranking of the two institutes in the Electrical Engineering department, where IIT Delhi has an edge. 2) Personally, I think Delhi also gives you an advantage considering the location of the college. IIT Delhi is situated in the main city itself, while Kanpur is more secluded. Moreover, Delhi provides access to training institutes for various fields (MBA, IAS, etc.) that you might wish to pursue in the future, which are not as readily available in Kanpur. 3) In terms of the study atmosphere, there might be fewer distractions in Kanpur. However, I believe that if someone is dedicated enough, they shouldn't have a problem studying in either environment. The Electrical Engineering faculty at IIT Delhi is quite good, though I can't comment on the faculty at IIT Kanpur.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Power and Automation) offers excellent internship opportunities with potential earnings up to 25 lakh, and the highest packages can reach 3-4 crore, which is impressive. However, IIT Kanpur’s B.Tech in Electrical Engineering also shines with an average package of 20-25 lakh and a slightly higher placement rate of about 80%. Both colleges have strong academic structures, but if you're leaning towards coding and core jobs, IIT Delhi might be the better fit due to its curriculum blend. On the other hand, if you prefer a higher likelihood of securing an internship and placement, IIT Kanpur could be the way to go. I recommend IIT Delhi for those focused on high earning potential through internships, while IIT Kanpur is ideal for students aiming for consistent placement success.
