Remarks
It is always been considered as one of the best universities in India for its academic excellence. Whatever I am today, it is because of those rigorous three years of learning.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum has been segregated into 6 semesters (3years) according to the chronological order. In the first two semesters we learnt comparative study of Eastern and Western literature of oral tradition. Here we learnt about the comparative discussion between Ramayana and Mahabharata with Illiad and Odyssey. In the second semester we learnt a third language and communicative grammar. For me it was Nepali, being a bengali I found it easy to learn Nepali other than Tamil. In 2nd year (2semesters) we learnt all those literature produced all across the world from Neoclassical age to Romanticism. In the last two semesters we studied about modernism and different literary bodies developed during this age.
Placement Experience
On the third year, our university conducted placement processes for the students all across streams. Being a student of literature, we were allowed to appear for the interview for teaching jobs in schools or as media professional. I appeared for my internship with Radio Mirchi which allowed its interns to celebrate Durga Puja with the puja committee and shared those news on air.
College Events
Every year, the students faculty organised arena in different sports like basketball, volleyball, football, cricket, badminton, table tennis and last but not the least cards. Bengali and playing cards over a cup of tea is a killer combination. We all were excited to participate in that card games. Apart from this, every year the faculty organised fest.
Fee Structure And Facilities
As it is a state owned government college, we had to pay a meagre amount as our tution fees. During the time of admission we have to pay around 1000rs and for each semester an amount of 110rs was paid as fees. There was only development charge of Rs.300.
Fees and Financial Aid
No I haven't opted for any scholarship or education loan. Due to an autonomous body, no one has to take financial aid for completing the study in Jadavpur University.
Campus Life
Jadavpur University has different clubs starting from photography, hiking, mountaineering, debate, dance, music to drama. It is a campus that celebrates life in different ways. Those activities brought students close to each other. The green zone will remain close to our heart as the place to share your innovative ideas. The book stall called Worldview (which was closed long back, but still the area is called by this name) is known for its adda joints and playing cards. The basketball ground is famous for its football practice and matches after classes. The parking lot will be known for its badminton games. All these memories bring a sweet note to your life. If you are asking about diversity, then it was a perfect blend where people from different socio-economic and political background come closer for the sake of learning something new.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is quite strong pan India. Whenever we were in need of money for our fest, it was our seniors who rescued us from financial burden. Whenever we were in search of new address in a new city, these seniors came out as the shelter to extend their warmth of love.
Admission
I wrote admission test for Jadavpur University in the department of Comparative literature. It is the only university that offers this brilliant course in world literature all across India. I appeared for the written examination conducted by the examination committee of the University. Before writing the examination, I got flunked in my degree course in Maths. So a fear was there in the bottom of my heart. I somehow overcame it after writing the examination paper out of sheer love for Literature. The qustions usually revolved around mythology, history, and world literature. As a whole I got a chance to pour my love for literature into words. Those who have ardent love for literature should write this examination to get a perspective of a different worldview. The result got published on 7th of May, 2011 and I got admission within a week. Admission process included a small interview session with the fellow professors.
Faculty
The professors helped me in following my dreams. While I was in 1st year of my undergraduation days, I first came to know an extraordinary course offered by JNU called Arts and Aesthetics. The third semester actually helped me in learning different perspectives of modernism. Whatever I wrote for my admission test for JNU, I learnt it from my undergraduate professors. The faculty of my department actually lessened the gaps of communication between the students and the professors. Over a cup of tea, we shared our political views or literary theories. This is how Jadavapur University shaped me today whatever I am.
