Remarks
The college has a unique atmosphere, usually found in prestgious universities of the world. The college student body reacts to every issue around the globe, and thus is famed for being enlightened. Not enough inclusion of modern technology to aid teaching. Faculties tend to be very politically aligned and biased, usually for personal gains.
Course Curriculum Overview
The college despite being a partially autonomous government college, is still affiliated to MG University, Kottayam. So, the course structure and curriculum is chiefly designed by the university and only partially by the respective departments of the college. This have given a little opportunity to experiment new creative and innovative concepts in the curriculum. But, I feel that there should be more space for this experimentation. There are 2 semesters per year, each having both externals and internal evaluations. The final grading of a semester is the total of these two. There is a thesis project in the end semester. The final grading is the combination of these semesters.
Placement Experience
The college has over 19 departments, with graduate degrees, post-graduate degrees for most of them, and doctoral degrees for some. Like most arts and science colleges, most of these programs aren’t professional. Thus, only few courses have internships. Most others have to go further studies for having job opportunities. Thus, only a few degree graduates gets placed every year.
College Events
The college’s events are known for bring colorful and vibrant. There many festivals, that of state festivals (like onam) and that of India. There are unique college events like college day, arts days, freshers party, farewell party, department fests, Christmas party, arts and science fests, and even college unique fests inherent in the centuries long historical and cultural tradition of the college.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The college fees are very much affordable to most of the populous. The college offers full scholarship to SC/ST students, covers a huge percent of non-creamy layer category student. For most courses except the 2 self-financed courses, the total course fees doesn’t exceed Rs 14,000.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college offers full scholarship to SC/ST students, covers a huge percent of non-creamy layer category student; despite the college fees being very low and very affordable. These scholarships are also offered to hostelers. External public and ngo scholarships are also accepted.
Campus Life
The college has a very good record at extracurricular activities. The college maintains a prominent position in intercollegiate sports. Many athletes are state and national level performers, with some being even national champions. The college has a well-maintained and large ground with most facilities, although the hockey ground lack the needed infrastructure. Most kinds of sports are available. The college science labs are wide, but mostly filled with old and undermaintained equipments. There is less of modern technical aid used in assisting this.
Alumni/Alumna
The college has been over 150 years old, and thus has a alumni network like no other. The alumnus of this college are found around the globe, many working in distinct private and public positions. Many Alumni are currently prominent civil servants, head of many government institutions,world-famed scientists, prominent government officials and ministers and business leaders too.
Admission
The college is currently partially autonomous state government college. Thus, the admission procedure is separate from MG University admission procedure. The admission procedure is updated annually, and purely based on merit, with sports and arts quotas respectively. The procedure has become almost completely online after being autonomous.
Faculty
The faculties of Maharajas are very educated and qualified, and are appointed only by merit through PSC. Almost all faculties are Ph.D holders, with some currently doing research and some being prominent and famous scholars. Many are alumnus of prestigious international institutions, some having presented papers there and in international journals. The only fault with the faculty body is that they are currently mostly politically motivated qnd biased, usually for personal benefits.
