Remarks
College life is bit boring. Too many lectures. Strict rules. Formal attire. No mobile phones. But spending time with my besties doesn't let me think about all these rules. But when it rains. The beauty of the college infrastructure will b elevated.
Course Curriculum Overview
Our curriculum is based upon a Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) along with a GPA every semester. It is mandatory to have at least half the total required credits in a year to get promoted to the next academic year. Theory exams are conducted in the form of 2 mid-terms with half syllabus in each of them, at the end of the semester, the overall midterm test marks are calculated by the taking the average of both the attempts. Laboratory exams are conducted internally once at the end before mid-term 2 and with external evaluators and examiners after mid-term 2. Objective exams for each consisting of 20 multiple choice questions is conducted online in computer lab after each mid-term 2 paper, which accounts to 5 whole marks in each subject. Final theory exams for 75 marks in each paper are conducted after all midterm, lab and objective exams are done and are evaluated by external faculty.
Placement Experience
Placement opportunities are fairly better when compared to the other average local colleges in the state. Internship opportunities are not encouraged before the very final semester unless it was earned through a campus drive. College does have a history of providing internships to meritorious students with or without a stipend but generally ranges from INR 10000 to 25000 per month.
College Events
We have two annual events. A one-day technical fest called "Technolites" where the students are allowed to showcase their engineering projects/paper presentations and some activities related to technology. A 2-day cultural fest called "Ortus" which has a traditional day on day 1 along with cultural performances such as dances, plays and musicals, the day ends with a college cricket tournament final match or dandiya. The second day we are allowed to wear anything irrespective of the strict dress code and there's usually a concert in the evening with known national/international celebrities performing.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure for an average student through convenor quota is a bit expensive when compared to other colleges. Tuition fees of around 125000 is set government-board after inspecting the performance, infrastructure and other aspects of the college. But another additional 6000 is expected as affiliation/accreditation fees for JNTU Hyderabad and NBA. Hostel fees are viewed as exorbitant considering the unsatisfactory facilities which was hiked from ?105000 because of the construction of a gym. Transportation fees is also considered exorbitant as it was hiked to a whopping 36000 per year this year, it is not even worth it because the buses are not air-conditioned, most of are often old and with broken suspension much to the woe of students. The college is a good 30-50 KMs from the main areas of the city and the reason stated for such high fees is the rising fuel costs.
Fees and Financial Aid
Government scholarships are available for underprivileged students and also meritorious students who are ranked below 10000 in the Entrance Exam provided that they meet with certain financial and academic requirements.
Campus Life
The college offers many opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities. Within the department there are three student-run organizations which you can get involved in.The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE).ISTE Students’ Chapters has been established in VCE in 2007. From then till now this Chapter has taken the lead role in carrying on the extracurricular activities in this college. Apart from a number of other activities, this chapter yearly hosts a State Level Technical Symposium under the name “TECHNOLITES” in order to take the technocrats to the peak of excellence.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are very good. Mess food also very good. They provide hot water in the hostel. There are separate grounds for football and basketball. There is also ground for cricket. Mess food is like our home food. They provide tiffin in the morning and meals in the afternoon and night.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni meets are conducted annually. I believe there are some groups for alumni support too. Final year students are made to interact with successful alumni through WhatsApp groups for advice regarding placements and job openings.
Admission
Admission to our college is done through EAMCET, a common entrance test conducted by the Govt of Telagana State.70% of the seats are allotted for the merit students on basis of their rank in EAMCET.30% of the seats are under management quota. In addition, diploma students are admitted into second year B.Tech to the extent of 20% intake based on the merit in ECET, under lateral entry scheme. Admission to MBA is also present which is based on the merit in ICET.
Faculty
Some faculty from our college believe in giving students room for learning using modern ways and trust them with handling their grades while participating in co-curricular activities/projects of their own. Majority of them like to keep the students to more restrictive and conventional idea of teaching and learning by not trusting them with their own grades. Thus to do a single non-academic activity like sports/entrepreneurship/internship it is mandatory to have permission from the Head of the Department. This creates a very regressive environment where nothing else matters besides maintaining a good GPA and landing a good placement.
