Remarks
I find it a privilege to be studying in NIT Rourkela. It is a brilliant college and I love the campus life. It is far from my home in Assam but the environment here is extremely homely for me. People here are friendly too. Faculty are mediocre. Placements are okay. And academics are good.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is ok. The focus on learning different coding languages is not much. Only C is taught in first year. Overall the structure is good enough for students to clear placement interviews or go into research.
Placement Experience
The placement and job opportunities are mediocre. Highest package here is 40lpa. Foreign placements are rare. Internships are good enough. Companies like Microsoft, Amazon, One Plus etc come to the campus.
College Events
We have our tech fest Innovision, and cultural fest NITRutsav. We have a multi ethnic fest called Cosmopolitan. Besides Ganesh Chaturthi, Saraswati puja and Holi are also celebrated. A huge mud pool is constructed on Holi.
Fee Structure And Facilities
For general categories the fee is not feasible. We pay 2lpa as fees which is almost the same as in private colleges. Reserved categories pay only 60K a year. The total expenditure in 4 years is 8 lakhs which may increase if someone has to sit for complementary summer semester to clear back logs.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are scholarships for reserved categories. People scoring above 6GPA can avail such scholarships. Besides there is provision for education loans that the SBI hands out to students that cannot afford to study here. Several private firms also offer scholarships and stipends to meritorious students.
Campus Life
Extra curricular activities are good. Our institute has the only Olympic standard swimming pool among all NITs. We have tennis and badminton courts, and basket ball courts too. There is a fully constructed football stadium and a half constructed cricket stadium on the campus premises. The labs are mostly good. The labs of some departments like metallurgy and mining are not well equipped.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is very strong. Famous people like the owner of Viacom 18 are Alumni of our institute. The seniors are very helpful. It is a no ragging campus and hence seniors are extremely friendly and help us with studies. They give us books and teach us and act as mentors when we are Freshers.
Admission
Cleared JEE Mains and sat for 7 rounds of Joss's counselling. After each round of counselling I had to verify documents. For seat confirmation I had to visit the NIT alloted in the final round and show all the documents again. Then I paid fees at NIT and took admission.
Faculty
The faculty of our College are highly qualified. Many of them have doctorates from foreign universities. But not all of them are equally good teachers as they were students. Some teachers aren't good English speakers.
