BITS Pilani Hyd Campus- A review

College give complete autonomy to the student and it is the students ability only that would mould his/her future. College provides ample opportunities for the student to excel. Another one of this college's top feature is how it emphasizes on academic and that is clearly shown in the admission process as only candidates clearing the cutoff of their qualifying examination are accepted and no reservations. Pure merit.

The course curriculum is pretty extensive covering the myraid of fields in computer science. In the first year, all the students have the same curriculum for a year so that they all learn the basic trades of engineering. For the next 3 years the student gains expertise in their respective fields. There are 2 major examination component in every semester, in addition to these there are multiple small components like quizes , assignments etc.

The placements and job opportunities for this college are one of its strong point. With the placements team have a vast network of connections, there are many companies coming for placements for both cycles of placement season ( i.e. in both semesters).The college mandates that every student serves as intern some company which is also provided for by the college itself. For a summer internship i was allotted Smartlinks Network Solutions ltd and a stipend of 2k was given . This was at the end of 2nd year. In the 4th year every student undergoes an internship in some company for 1 whole semester. For me its is in Amazon Development Centre Chennai, and the stipend is 45k.

There are 3 major events and 1 minor event that are celebrated in the college. The 3 big ones are : ATMOS ( technical fest ) , PEARL ( cultural fest ) and ARENA ( sports fest ). Along with these 3, the minor event is Verba Maximus which is the literary fest of college. All these fest are organised and conducted by the student body and in no aspect is the administration involved in these events.

The fee structure is probably the only lacking are for the college. Currently the academic fee for the whole year comes to around 4 lakh for the whole of academic year ( this includes everything , hostel , mess fees etc.But the college has a policy by which it revises the fee structure and can increase it by upto 15% every year.

There are multiple scholarships available for the students. However there are two primary ones. One scholarship solely focuses on the merit of the student and the top 7 percentile of each batch is given this scholarship. The other one is for the students who come from financially poor families. Both scholarships offer upto 80% of the tuition fees for the student.

Each and every department is equipped with the top of the line laboratories and each laboratory has professionals assistance provided so that the student is empowered at all the time. Sport facilities are also top notch as, students excel not only in academics but sports as well, winning various competitions and events. From basketball to cricket, all the major forms of sports are available on campus along with a fully functional and equipped gym for students recreation.

Hostel infrastructure is pretty good with new hostels being added here and there as the campus expands. Most rooms available, are for single occupancy however the newer hostels come with dual occupancy. Each wing (around 10-12 rooms) has its own common bathroom with 24 hrs running water. Each floor has a common area which has television and other recreational services. Each room comes with a bed, a cupboard, a study desk, lan ports, wifi connection availablity.

Alumni network as well as in campus student networks are pretty strong and extremely helpful and they are always approachable with any kind of doubt. From knowledge about their respective subjects to what to do after the college, seniors and alumni help in every way.

There is only one entrance examination that the student give to get a seat in this college. Other than that there are a few seat offered to the toppers of few select state boards. As there are only a limited amount of seats in each year and in each course so only the students getting higher scores in that examination get in. Students can give their preferences of subject options from which they get one ( provided they have scored above cutoff ). Before applying for this entrance examination, a student must have acquired atleast 75% in their 12th board examination.

The faculties are very esteemed and knowledge. Their teaching methods are refined and simple to understand. All teachers are approachable with doubts or queries both after the lectures and in their chambers as well. Each and every lecturer is an expert in his/her field and give us deep insight into the subject matter.
