My College Review

My college is a typical engineering college, we're often busy writing practicals and completing assignments. As I said before, the labs are not up to the mark, so we're lacking a practical approach for the things we study in books, the library is just a building of no use, we can almost never find the desired book over there, some of the positive points include the low fee structure, no compulsion of 75% attendance like other colleges and the events and other recreational activities being organised round the year.

My college has semester pattern for B.Tech, each semester is of 6 months, there are total 8 semesters, that is, 4 years of Engineering. In each semester there are 5 to 7 subjects which we need to study out of which 5 are the necessary ones, that makes 40 different subjects in 4 years! In the first year, students in all the branches(CS, IT, Electical etc.) have the same subjects which they're required to study, afterwards they have to study subjects related to their respective branches. During each semester, we face 4 exams of all the subjets of that semester, 3 mid-semester exams(called midsems) and 1 end-semester exam(called endsem), the 3 midsems are 30 marks exams each, which we face during the 2nd, 3rd and 5th month respectively, out of these 3, the one in which our performance was best is selected and its marks are carried forward. Then comes the endsem exams which decide if we're going to pass that semester or not, they're 105 marks exams held on the 6th month of that semester, the pass marks are 33 for endsem.

In my college, companies like TCS and other tech companies come to provide jobs to the graduated students. Last year's highest package was 12 lakhs which was given to one of the students of IT branch. My college isn't a top class college like the IITs, students need to study really hard to secure a good future. I'm currently in 3rd semester, there is internship provided in my college but it will be there for us in 6th semester.

My college is heaven for those people who like to participate in various events like cultural, sports, techfests etc. 1) Shankhnad- This is the annual cultural event of my college, all cultural programs ranging from rangoli to dancing, singing, fashion show treasure hunt etc. are being presented over the course of 2 days 2) Mahasangram- This is the annual sports event of my college, cricket, volleyball, football, tug of war etc. games are being organised over the course of 5 days 3) Convolution- This is the annual technical cum cultural event of my college, this one is my favourite, all events related to robotics, programing languages are being held, not only that, DJ night, wall painting, fashion show etc. The event you name it we got it! Alongside these annual events, we've many events on the way, they are randomly occuring events which provide exposure to the students, also there are many clubs which are being operated by students in the college, these are dancing club, singing club, literature club etc. These people conduct auditions for the freshers and give them entry to their respective clubs. They compete on national level platforms.

My college fee is probably the lowest in this city, The maximum fee a student may have to pay is just Rs.31150(INR) per year! Out of this the tuition fee is 22300 and bus fee is 7200, this makes 29500, the rest includes adventure fee, caution money etc.

There is Medhavi Chatra Yojna for meritorious students which almost makes studying in this college free of cost, just some nominal amount of money is needed to be given.I availed for bus fee deduction, any student(except first year) living under the range of 5 km from college with his/her own home can use this, he need to fill a bus fee deduction form and attach an Affidavit and a telephone or electricity bill.Also, there is scheme called tuition Fee Waiver(TFW), this scheme is not of my college alone, this must be selected during the choice filling of counseling.

The labs of my college are not up to mark, don't get surprised if you find 8 out 10 computers in the computer lab are not in working condition. The same goes with almost every other lab except for few which are well maintained. Our football ground is half the size of a standard football ground, basketball court is not in playable condition, only volleyball ground is the standard one, but a sports complex is under construction which is going to have all the sports a good college should have.

My seniors are very helpful, most of them are kind and generous, we've made a WhatsApp group in which they guide us for the upcoming exams, send us notes and provide us previous year question papers. They also gave us fresher's party which was very good and a memorable one.

Most of the faculty members are very qualified, experienced and experts in their respective fields, they're always there to clear our doubts, but the rest of them are lacking behind in terms of experience and the level of expertise. There are two types of faculty members here, permanent and contract faculty members, usually all the permanent ones are highly experienced experts of their subjects and some(NOT ALL) of the contract faculty members just don't stand up to the mark.
