Remarks

Although the college is still budding and perhaps the curriculum isn’t as rewarding owing to the administration, the faculties etc, the college does have an extraordinary unity and a positive vibe. The people are the best thing about the college. There’s always somebody to help you over the course, to assist you in whatever way possible otherwise. There isn’t any favoritism within the college when it comes to participating in the student council or Involving yourself in any of the departmental heads for the fest & for other committees. Merit is rewarded, help is appreciated and at the end of the day, it’s a happy experience.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is well designed with some elective subjects in the first 4 years and you’re allowed to choose your desired specialisation in the final year, with the options being Business Law, Constituitional Law, Crime & Criminalogy Law & Intellectual Property Law. The marking scheme is divided into a 40:60 scheme where 40 marks are awarded for internals (includes research papers, presentation & vivas) & 60 is for the term end examination.

Placement Experience

3

The college is still at a nascent stage with not many alumnus, which are very important for internships & placements in the legal profession. The internal placement committee coordinates with law firms across the country & other corporates offering a position in the legal team. The placement network isn’t as well structured compared to the National Law Schools, and NMIMS does not have campus interviews for 4th Years yet. However, the committee actively engages to provide internships for the students where the students can impress with their performance and get considered for an assessment thereon.

College Events

1.5

The college hosts the following inter college events (besides other intra-college events of the similar manner): 1. Meraki, the Cultural Fest, 2. Loquitur, the parliamentary debate; 3. Annual International Moot Court Competition 4. Parakram, the National Sports Fest. All of the above events have their own Instagram page, which provides constant updates.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure has been varying towards the upward year to year. At present, it ranges from an annual fee of ?2,00,000 to ?2,50,000 (exclusive of any hostel and canteen facility). Compared to other private law instituitions, the fee is a little expensive but provides an equivalent exposure. However, some of the more reputed National Law Schools have less or equivalent fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college does have a scholarship program with a pretty detailed structure available on the website. However, I am not aware of any one who has availed the same. Beside, the college also has tie-ups with student financing business, who can assist for the loan facility.

Campus Life

2.5

The Moot Court room is shared by the college with another college who is in the same building. The sports participation is upcoming. NMIMS does not have a sporting premise of its own and allows coordinating with sister schools and college of the trust to use the turf, basketball court etc available at their campus which is in a 3 km radius.

Alumni/Alumna

The Alumni network is small, yet engaging. They have help securing internships for the college and help repute the goodwill. The Alumni are often invited for adjudicating the intra moot court competitions. They also help in establishing communication with some senior people in the field who often deliver guest lectures. There is no specific culture of a senior-parent or on those lines, but the seniors involve themselves in informing the newcomers with the rules and familiarising them with the feats, curriculum etc.

Admission

For the course, one has to take the Common Law Aptitude Test (“CLAT”), which is a national test to apply for National Law Schools. The scores out of 200, are accepted by other law colleges too, including NMIMS. One has to fill the application once the CLAT result is out and you’ve a score. There’s two merit lists, which would be released within two weeks of each other. Post which, one would have to go to the campus for the admission.

Faculty

4

With a very high attendance requirement, one has to attend the classes a lot & the faculties indeed do make it less cumbersome. Most faculties are well prepared for the lectures and offer fresh insights with current trends & set precedents. Also, they offer an extra hand while preparing for extracurriculars.

The curriculum is extremely outdated. While NLU students are learning about law in thier first year itself, we have to wait till 3rd year for the same thing. A lot of students end up learning more at internships rather than at college

Placement Experience:

From 4th Year of the college the student is eligible for a pre-placement offer, main placements happen in the Final year i,e. 5th year. Companies that hire majorly are Tier-1 and Tier-2 law firms, like AZB, Khaitan&Co. Average package goes to about 15-16LPA. My plan is not fixed yet, but I aim to pursue SEBI or RBI law officer exam.
