MSc Geology Manipal

The campus is really good. You will get a lot of exposure from this college. People from different parts of the country come here and it provides you with an opportunity to get acquainted with different people and cultures as well as develop relationships that will benefit you in the future

Course curriculum is well balanced. The first three semesters have courses and the last semester is reserved for your masters dissertation work. Field works and training are compulsory for every student. You are required to do a summer internship after your second semester exam.

Currently for MSc Geology the college do not provide any placements. They assist you with your summer internship and dissertation but placement services has not yet been established for this course. Summer internship may be paid or unpaid depending on the institute/research organisation you are working on. There are also opportunities for internships in the college itself, but it is unpaid.

There are plenty of extracurricular activities and events in the college. The tech fest or tech tatva takes place during the even semester usually during the first or second week of October. It's called tech tatva and it is a week long festival consisting of various tech events. During the odd semester the festival Revels take place. It's basically the arts festival and it also lasts a week.

Bit toward the higher end. For the masters courses the fees structure is 85000 for the first year and then 70000 for the second year. A refund of 5000 rupeew would be provided after the completion of your course

I have been selected as a Junior Research Fellow to work on a project under one of my professors. The funding is for three years and you will get the UGC prescribed JRF stipend. Each semester you have to give a presentation describing your progress.

Lab facilities are good. There are microscopes for thin sections and stereozoom microscope for quartz petrography. The college has several ground for football, cricket and hockey as well as tennis and badminton courts

The hostels are good. Some hostels are a bit far from the campus and you have to walk or ride a bicycle to class. The hostels infrastructure is good and mess facilities are available. There are plenty of restaurants nearby but takin a mess would be easier on your pocket

The alumni network is pretty well established. You have to register in their alumni association network and they will send you a mail regarding the same. It provides a good networking opportunity. They are generally helpful and responds positively to your doubts.

I applied to the college through their website and was asked to send the scanned copy of my marksheets. I paid the application fee online and sent them my marksheets. After a few weeks I received a mail stating that I had secured admission.

Experienced teachers with a wealth of knowledge in their respective subjects. Five permanent take classes for you and the labs are assisted by the research scholars. The permanent teachers take different subjects during the first 3 semesters.
