My college life

Our college is ranked No.1 medical college in Eastern India according to INDIA TODAY Survey held last year among the medical colleges across India. Our college not only provides good education and makes good doctors but also provides platform to the students for extracurricular activities e.g. sports, dancing, singing, writing,etc.

Course curriculum is balanced. My personal opinion is to increase number of clinical classes and enhance clinical exposure to students. There are 4 university exams called MB taken by WBUHS. Each MB is the final exam for each year e.g. 1st MB is the final exam for 1st year students. There are total 9 semesters in MBBS course.2 in 1st year,3 in 2nd year,2 in 3rd year and 2 in 4th year. Semesters serve as internal exams of the respective college and are important for internal marks which is later added with marks of the final exam i.e. MB. Also there are numerous class tests e.g. Part Completion tests, ITEMS , Presentations , Ward Clearance exams , OSCEs, etc. Also for the academically bright students, Gold medal exams and Class Assistantship exams are held for each subject.

After doing MBBS, one can easily get a job of either RMO in private nursing homes or as a Medical officer in government hospitals. Also there is opportunity of private practice and join in any medical college as demonstrator for 1st year subjects. 1 year clinical rotatory internship is mandatory for all MBBS pass out students.Our college also provides internship. I will start my internship in our college and hospital in February,2020.During the internship I will be alloted duty in various departments e.g. General medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, anesthesia, community medicine, ophthalmology,ENT, orthopedics, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics,etc. At present the stipend is around Rs. 23,600 per month.

Our college annual fest- LOBELIA ( List of events in fest---intra and inter college events of singing, dancing,acting, painting,poetry, fashion show,drama, stand up comedy, online gaming , outdoor and indoor games, debate,Quiz, creative writing,etc).There are 3-4 guest artist/band performances in Lobelia. 2.College Reunion 3. Freshers Welcome ( named METAMORPHOSIS) 4. Convocation ceremony 5. Various medical and clinical workshops. 6.Free health camps 7.Toppers prize-giving ceremony 8.Students picnic arranged by respective batches of the college 9.Other programs e.g. Teacher's day celebration, Rabindra jayanti celebration, children's Day, world cancer day, world hiv day awareness program in respective departments.

Feasible. 1.College fee- Rs.4500 per semester 2.Examination fee- around Rs.2000 per year ((Hostel accommodation fee- Rs.12 per month if one avails college hostel Hostel canteen charge- no fixed charge , one will have to pay what he/ she eats.))

Our college itself doesn't provide any scholarship or loan facility. But there are various scholarships that can be availed by MBBS studying students.e.g. West Bengal MCM scholarship provided by WB Govt. , Minority scholarship for minority students, Dr. Mani Bhaumik foundation scholarship, etc.

Our college is quite famous among the medical colleges in West Bengal regarding extracurricular activities.Every year,various intra- college and inter- college events are held e.g. Sports( cricket,football,table tennis,carrom , online gaming competition),dancing, singing, acting,writing,poetry,fashion show,Quiz competition,etc.Our college fest LOBELIA is famous regarding those. Our college students also organise free health check-ups and cloth- distribution program to slum children during Durga puja. Unfortunately,our college campus does not own any playground for outdoor games.So we play in the nearby veterinary college playground. Laboratories are good in our college.But if some renovations are done ,that will be better.

Most seniors are very helpful and help us in every possible way they can.Also there is a strong alumni network of our college.There are many seniors from our college across other states of India and even in many other countries e.g. USA,UK, Singapore,etc.There is a Facebook group of our college alumni.

I gave WBJEE Medical in the year 2015 and got rank 478( UR). Then counseling process was done and I got alloted to this college after documents verification. At my time one could get admission in this college through WBJEE( Medical) and NEET- UG. At present,WBJEE( Medical) is not held. So only way to get admission is through NEET- UG Medical entrance exam held once every year.

Maximum faculties are very helpful, student-friendly and teaches very well.Particularly in our course i.e. MBBS , clinical knowledge what we gather is mostly because of the great professors of the college.
