Presidency of South Calcutta

Our college is known as Presidency of South. As it gives the best study experience. There was not so much political interference in our college, although there was a student union, which helped us to solve many issues. No negative comment.

When I was a student it followed a year-based exam system. We have to give 3 exams in 3 years. But also there was a test exam conducted by the college. We must have to pass that and then we are allowed for the final exam.

As it is a graduation college, no opportunities for placement were there. We were provided access to every scholarship. But the college didn't give us a scholarship. Some of the alumni were recruited as lecturers in our College. Like SP sir, SD mam was a student of our college.

1. Freshers ( every year the Freshers were welcomed, our function were arranged twice in Nazrul Mancha, once in Girish Mancha. Bangla Rock band Fossil came to our function ) 2. Yearly Sport ( in winter), a Football match between teacher and students was arranged. 3. Saraswati Puja

It is a little bit expensive as compared to other colleges like SN College, City College. And it is obvious, because our college was a semi-autonomous college, and provides best quality study experience.

I did not apply for loans. But I was given a yearly scholarship of 5500 /- but some other scholarships were also available. But actually, I was unaware of that, and some of my friends got some scholarships up to 60000/ year.

We had different laboratories for different subjects and also for different streams. Like there was two labs in the physics department. One is for the Honours candidate and the other was for the Pass candidate. In winter, the sport was arranged. A big AC library, with Free WiFi, was available there.

Yes, Our senior alumnis were very helpful. They used to discuss various topics with us. Also, they helped us in lab work to do the work smoothly. A departmental Freshers was also arranged for our welcome.

It was then a merit-based system. I was selected in Physics Dept for my merit marks. I filled up my form and I gave preference for physics, chemistry, and math. But ultimately I was selected for the Physics course. The process of admission was very transparent.

The faculties were really good. Our HOD was a student of IIT Kharagpur also he had some research papers, undoubtedly our faculties were the best in South Calcutta. There was a teacher named CHAPAL KUMAR CHATTERJEE, he has tremendous knowledge about physics.
