Remarks

It’s a good place to meet like- minded people and learn and grow together. The campus community forms a close knit group and you make friends for life here. The campus, the people and this life has made a stronger and confident person. If there is anything such as a single defining feature of IIT-Kanpur, it is liberty. You don't have LAN bans, download limits, compulsory attendance (except in some courses where it is a small percentage (5-10%) of the overall course weightage), no fixed time by which you should be in the campus etc. There is no dress code (students frequently come to lectures, project demos etc. in tees and shorts). Boys are allowed in girls' hostels and vice-versa until 12AM, and you are free to go to your friend's room in such cases.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course content followed here at IIT Kanpur is quite rigorous and is a benchmark for many colleges. The course content has developed over decades and is at par with many famous international academic institutes, with quite a few courses being almost identical. Academically, the course curriculum is quite rigorous and research oriented. The exam structure consists of one mid semester examination, one end semester examination and two quizzes, per semester. It is one of the few institutions where American grading system is followed.

Placement Experience

4.5

IIT Kanpur has a superb placement record and is considered one of the best institute for placements at Bachelor's level. It has consistently stayed in top rankings in terms of packages for students. With both high paying International and national offers, the institute has never managed to disappoint in terms of placement abilities. The campus also has a dedicated team for placements and internships. The students get chances to appear for in-campus interviews for many national and international companies for both placement and internships. There are many types of internships available, such as, research, marketing, core etc. Institute also provides paid internship opportunities at Start-ups.

College Events

3.5

The institute witnesses the following events: 1) Udghosh : Inter-college sports festival. 2) Techkriti : Inter-college technical and entrepreneurial festival. 3) Antaragni : Inter-college cultural festival. 4) E-summit : Entrepreneurial meet-up. 5) Start-up Master Class : Networking event for entrepreneurship. 6) Josh : Institute Sports league 7) Galaxy : Institute Cultural league 8) Takneek : Institute Technical competition 9) Inferno : Freshers sports competition 10) Odyssey : Freshman cultural competition

Fee Structure And Facilities

The current fee structure is feasible as compared to other colleges in India. With a tuition fee of 1 lakh per semester, it is definitely more than many other colleges but due to many different available scholarships and facilities, the overall fee structure is feasible.

Fees and Financial Aid

The institute offers many different scholarships. The students from economically weaker section receive subsequent discounts in their tuition fees. Apart from this students also get tuition fees discount based on their caste status. The students also receive Mean-cum-Merit Scholarship

Campus Life

4.5

The campus provides ample of opportunities to students to indulge in extracurricular activities. It provides world class infrastructure for sports, proper clubs and hobby groups for cultural activities and labs for research work apart from course.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Institute has more than 13 available hostels. With a accomodation fees of less than 12 thousand per year the hostels are very reasonable. The hostel infrastructure is exemplary and consists of many modern facilities. The hostels and messes are very hygienic and have modern equipments.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors as well as alumni are very helpful and are easy to bond with. There have been multiple instances when the seniors as well as the alums have gone out of the way to help a junior. From academics to social interactions, the seniors have been a constant support and guide. One unique thing about the campus is that the juniors are required to call the seniors by their name, and not by any title. This creates a sense of familiarity between students and erases any boundaries that batch would have created.

Admission

The admission process for IITs is a two stage process. The first leg comprises of students appearing for a preliminary round, known as JEE-Mains, which sees a participation of about 15 lakh students from all over India. Out of these, around 2 lakh students qualify for the next round. The second and final round, JEE Advanced, consists of two papers held on a single day. The meritlist of this paper is the final selection criteria for admission at IITs. The students get an option to choose their college and branch, amongst 23 IITs, based on their rank. After a brief counseling session, the students are allotted a college and branch based on their preferences.

The college can rightly boast of its academically excellent faculty. The professors are highly qualified and have an excellent research background. Many of them have made notable contribution in their respective fields. Some of the faculty members have recieved accolades at both national and international levels. The institute has had its own fair share of famous/popular professors.

I choose this course because I want to be a software developer. The faculty are very kind and helpful. Almost every faculty member has completed there post-graduation from various established colleges. The examination scheme is a little bit slow here. Students can pass their semester exams if they are paying at least 45 per cent of their concentration.
