Remarks

It's one of the best government medical College and hospital in West Bengal.Located on a well populated and well communicated area. The college provides the students an environment & opportunity to establish as an knowledgeable Doctor in future. The professors are efficient in their respective fields and student friendly. The hospital provides good infrastructure to make the students efficient doctors.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

Most of the students from bioscience stream have dreams of becoming a doctor in future, their parents also motivate them to do so. MBBS is the undergraduate stream to become a registered general practitioner in Modern medicine & Surgery. The curriculum consists of 19 subjects taught within a duration of 4.5 years with one additional year of compulsory rotatory internship. Although MBBS is one of the toughest course to be pursued, one can enjoy it if he/she take the profession of Medicine as a passion.

Internships Opportunities

The course MBBS is incomplete without internship of one year duration. Every student passed the final year professional examination has to do rotatory internship under all the departments. e.g. Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry, Dermatology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia, Community Medicine with Rural posting. At the end of the tenure the trainees have to get their internship completion book signed by the respective HODs & the Principal of the college. After submitting the duly signed book to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences one gets his/her permanent Registration Number from the West Bengal Medical Council.

Placement Experience

5

In the era of scarcity of doctor in India, every student passed out from the college can get government/ private hospital job at an ease. One can do Housestaffship for one year duration at this hospital, he/she will get stipend from the state government. Others prepare themselves for NEET PG for MD/MS course.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Being a government medical College the fees are not that much. One has to pay 750? per month as tuition fees. Hostel accommodation is also at minimum cost, government takes only 12? from the students for hostel accommodation.

Fees and Financial Aid

This is a government medical College & hospital, the tuition fees are also reasonable for economically weak families. The Government of West Bengal has several scholarships for meritorious students. One can checkout the government sponsored scholarship at the following websites: www.wbchse.nic.in www.wbhealth.gov.in www.wbuhs.ac.in

Campus Life

4.5

Annual teacher vs students football match, inter medical colleges football league, intercollege cricket league etc. are organised yearly. Students can participate in general quiz competitions as well as medical quiz competitions held at inter college, inter state and national level. Students can participate in medical seminar and CME organised at different departments of the college as well as in different medical colleges.

Hostel Facilities

4

The hostel is good and spacious. Every two adjacent rooms have attached bathroom. Rooms are provided with 2 beds, 2 shelves, fan, light. All rooms are spacious and well ventilated. Hostel has its own canteen that provides food to tha occupants 3 times. A separate game room is there with television.

Alumni/Alumna

Medical fraternity is the only fraternity that evolves with themselves with closely relationship. During our internship trainees, Housestaffs and RMOs have to spend a lot of time together in the hospital and naturally a good bond among themselves grows. We never think RMO as our professors, we think them as our mentors, friend and guide, they also share helpful attitude towards us. We the alumni keep connection with ourselves and meet annually in a reunion festival.

Exam Structure

Exams are conducted by West Bengal University of Health Sciences simultaneously in all the medical colleges in West Bengal. First professional MBBS exam consists of 3 subjects i.e. Anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. Candidates have to go to other medical College to sit for the exam. External examiners come from different universities to take practical examination. Likely second professional MBBS exam consists of 4 subjects i.e. Pathology, pharmacology, forensic medicine & toxicology and Microbiology. 3rd professional MBBS part 1 examination consists of 3 subjects i.e. Ophthalmology, ENT and Community Medicine; 3rd professional MBBS part 2 examination consists of 4 subjects i.e. General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Paediatrics. One have to pass all the subjects with minimum 50% numbers in theory and practical each to get qualified for Internship.

Admission

I sat for WBJEE 2012 & scored rank 927. At present one has to sit for NEET UG exam to get admitted to this college. I had choices from other medical colleges too but opted for this because of its well equipped infrastructure & convenience of daily journey. After scoring a rank I had to attend offline counselling. At present one can choose college of preference through online counselling only.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is completely based on NMC new guidelines. Along with the theory classes where we know the structure and their working in dissection we actually see them on cadaver . Lectures should be more interesting as it's get boring to literally listen the concepts for first time like a story and at the end we forget everything

Course Curriculum Overview:

Medical field is a really good field in my opinion to serve humankind and learn about science of nature and life!the curriculum is a little overpaced and there are 19 subjects which are taught in a timespan of 4.5 years which is a bit hectic! There are 4 professional exams and 9 semesters which have pretty good difficulty and assess our skills and education. We have regular examinations in around 4-5 months each. Only thing id like to change in the curriculum is better assessment of many topics which are taught pretty well but aren't examined much leading us to waste our time in focussing on them.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Well, mbbs is very hard and long term process. You will be bored in 1st year because you cant get real clinical cases. But in Final year, 3rd Prof Part 2, you will get huge pressure. Because there are total 11 subjects, you should study in final year. It is a great burden for all. I'm not satisfied with Nmc curriculum. They are not thinking about students. They are implement their rules in chilled ac room. But they don't know the real scenarios.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is quite planned and great and has a lot of advantages in having a clinical and learning diagnostic approach to various diseases. One area where the curriculum can improve is by having more practical classes rather than theoretical classes. The exams are quite difficult but are quite planned to make you understand the clinician and the passing percentage is 50 percent.
