A growing NIT

Our college has been in headlines due to ragging in the past but right now administration has taken serious steps to stop it. There are hardly any cases of it and the change is happening. It is very easy to pick up bad habits here as everything is very easily accessible but i guess that same is with every other college out there.

Course is of 4 years which comprises of 8 semesters. In each semester, we have 3 tests namely mini test, mid term examination and the end term examination. Mini test comprises of 10 marks, Mid-terms of 20 and the End terms are of 60 marks. Rest 10 marks is internal marks.

Being a central government college, many companies do visit for placements and internship program. We had a Training and Placement Cell which conducts all the internship and placement activities. Stipend vary from company to company and it can go very high. Renowned recruiters are Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Zomato, Samsung and many others.

There are lots of lots of events which happen throughout the year. We have two major events : One is our Technical fest which is Technosearch and happens in the odd semester in the month of October. And the other is cultural fest which is Maffick and it happens in even semester the month of March. Apart from these two there are many other events which are conducted.

As it is a government college, fees are decided by MHRD. Right now it is 62500 per semester tuition fees and 6000-7000 other fees which one has to pay. However SC/ST/PWD candidates do not have to pay any tuition fee. Scholarships on the basis of income is available for general and OBC candidates.

Fee concession is provided on the basis on annual family income. If the annual income is less than 1 lakh then one does not have to pay any tuition fee. If the income is between 1 lakh and 5 lakhs then 2/3rd tuition fees is waived off.

We have a very good sports facilities. There is a sports complex which has most of the games and equipments which you will need. We also have a very big football ground, basketball courts, volleyball courts too.

New hostels have built which are better as compared to old ones whereas old one are being renovated to cater the need of the students. We have currently 11 hostels out of which 10 are for boys and 1 for girls.

Being a very old college (it was established in 1960 ) it has very vast alumni network which is spread throughout the world and they can prove to be very helpful. Regarding seniors they are helpful too but you just have to ask the right senior about it.

One has to take Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main Examination and the admission is done on the basis of rank obtained in the exam through centralised counseling which is conducted by JOSAA in the month of june. The exam is held in two slots- one in January and the other one in April. One can take both exams and the best of two will be considered.

Faculty are good as this is a central government college. They do their job fine but some contract faculties can be arrogant at times. This is sure that you can definitely find some good faculties in every department. The research work is ok ok types and there is a lot of room for improvement in research area.
