Remarks
There are as such no good/bad remarks about my college or college management. Placements and job opportunities have always been the best. SMIT boasts about cooperative seniors, friendly relation with faculty, good classrooms with projector and AC which no other colleges in Sikkim would offer. The students are under strict rules and instructions so that they are well disciplined. The college has provided all these facilities to students so they can outshine others after their college life.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course and curriculum of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology are absolutely top-notch not just during college life, but life beyond college. We used to have regular lab assignments, sessional exams and Semester exams, which we dreaded during our time there, but after finishing college I personally realised that the college was not just preparing us for exams, but for our life as a successful engineer, a successful employee and a successful identity in society.
Placement Experience
SMIT has a record of 90+% placements every year. We have a facility where top companies come to provide internships and placements. I did my placement at Nim Dao Tata Motors Pvt Ltd.
College Events
We have monthly fests from different branches where every student has the opportunity to showcase their talent. We also have our mega fest KAALRAV where we get to showcase our talent among various students from various colleges. Each every student from various backgrounds would be able to celebrate their own cultural/traditional festival in the college and the teachers would encourage every one of us to be a part of the festivals.
Fee Structure And Facilities
My fees were 250,000 per year which included classroom training, lab work, extracurricular activities and more. The only expenses I had from my side were for the notebooks, graph papers, drafter and assignment practical books. Study materials such as books and important notes were all provided by the college.
Fees and Financial Aid
I had applied for an educational loan from SBI bank. Since my fees were low, I did not have to pay the processing fee.
Campus Life
In the engineering stream, around 500-600 students were present. Students of different background, culture, nationality all lived and studied under one roof in harmony. SMIT has a state of the art arena where students can avail the facilities of a gym, basketball court, table tennis, squash, snooker, etc.
Alumni/Alumna
Every year, SMIT Alumni meet is held at different parts of India. Students residing in various parts of India come together to share ideas, chat with friends, colleagues and seniors.
Admission
I had just given the WBJEE exam and SMIT online exam. During the month of May 2013, I was called for counselling and the teachers there carefully explained to me about the admission process. I wanted to opt for mechanical engineering and by the grace of God, I got admission in the branch of my interest and in one the best college. After various rounds of document verification and interviews, I was allocated to a hostel and my journey with SMIT started.
Faculty
The professors all were highly educated and had the quality to be the best teachers we could ask for. SMIT had a unique teacher guardian program where a teacher was assigned to a group of students to attend to their every need, either personal or studies related. They are always there to help us students in whatever ways possible.
