Remarks

SMIT where fun meets the learning, knowledge synchronized with the mind, practices influenced by ethics, activities based on research and science, living with an open mind. Truly, Inspired by Life.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course curriculum and exam structure are well standardized and modified as per requirement. The curriculum intends to train students in the technological and managerial aspect so that they come out as competent professionals. The policy is to impart knowledge and skill to the individuals according to the latest trend to make industry-ready. Apart from theoretical and practical classes, the students are often taken for industrial visits and many more training and projects are done by students in various companies and industries. The required knowledge and skill were already imparted to me by SMIT. I just had to execute them. Yes, SMIT has made me a professional, a better one.

Placement Experience

5

In the current scenario, where placements are so tough to come by, I would say SMIT stands out. There is 100 % placement for eligible candidates. On average about 80 to 90 % gets placed. Many of them pursue higher education and some work as an entrepreneur with their own startups. The Training and Placement cell has a huge link with various organizations all over the country. Some of the major recruiters are Microsoft, Dell, Wells Fargo, Titan, TCS etc.

College Events

5

National holidays are well celebrated in SMIT. Flags are hoisted with numerous salutes during Independence and Republic Day. Vishwakarma and Saraswati poojas are celebrated every year. There is an Annual Function event where outstanding performers amongst students and staff are felicitated. The achievements of the past year by an individual or a group is recognized. This motivates everyone to perform better. 'Kaalrav' a techno-cultural fest is organized in a grand manner every year. Many neighbouring colleges are invited to take part in various events like musical sports games etc. It not only provides a platform for students of different background to come together and interact but also gives an opportunity for students to show their talents to show what they are good at and they are recognized. It is a three-day-long event and generally ends with a performance from invited guest band or a celebrity. A lot of departmental fest and activities are often conducted.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I think the fee structure was as follows. Tuition fee: Rs 30000 approx. per semester. Total eight semesters: About 2,40,000. The actual fee was more. I was under government scholarship so I got a rebate of about 75% in my tuition fee. The sum amounted to what is mentioned above. Other expenses include. Books of around Rs 8000, Lab coat and dress Rs 600, Miscellaneous Rs 5000, Other from this the student had to pay Rs 4000 per subject for appearing for backlog s.

Fees and Financial Aid

I had opted for the scholarship from the Education department of the Sikkim government. After I finished my schooling I submitted all my mark sheets to the department from where we got our college seats through quota. As per my performance, I was given a scholarship by the government of Sikkim to study in SMIT. I was fortunate to get a rebate of about 75% in my yearly tuition fees.

Campus Life

5

Campus life was fun. I got an opportunity to meet people from all across the country and learnt a lot from them and also brewed a good lasting friendship with them. A had friends from the northeast like Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, friends from the south like Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and also from midland like UP Mumbai and Delhi. The labs were all well equipped with machines and systems with a trained instructor. A lot of real practices were learnt in the labs. Sports in SMIT is awesome. It has an international standard sports complex termed MARENA. It has indoor basketball, badminton and long tennis court, snooker, table tennis, squash, standard length swimming pool for swimmers and world-class gym accompanied by professional instructors. A lot of departmental activities keeps on going like debate, Robo wars, games, village camps etc.

Alumni/Alumna

SMIT has a strong and wide network of alumni all across the country and abroad. They are very helpful as in the case of placements and also inspires the current student. Many of the alumni are doing well and in a good position. Some have started their own companies. Alumni take their time out and come all the way to the college to interact with students which really motivates them. Every year Alumni meet is organized by the institution where all available alumni get together along with the institution and share each other's experiences and moments.

Admission

I heard about SMIT from my friend. It was a premier technological institute offering B.Tech courses. I was interested in engineering so I opted for it. I visited the college during admission time around the month of May 2002. I found the campus well kept and clean. I got the prospectus and fill the form. About a month later, I was called for counselling. I got a seat in Electronic and Communication Engineering which I later switched to Mechanical Engineering.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty of SMIT are well qualified and bear sound knowledge. Many of them have PhD in various engineering fields and rest are pursuing their doctorate course. They teach well, communicate well and gives attention to the class and each individual. They are very helpful and pays special attention towards weak students. They are always there to solve problems. The faculties are actively indulged in research and projects and also motivates and inclines the students towards the same. Many projects and researches are eye opening.

Previous year highest package is 55 lakh ,which had given to two students from eee branch. This year highest package is 35 lakh . Which is offered by two students. Now ,I am concluding all branch avg and placement percentage - Civil -70%placed Mechanical- 100% placed Eee-92% Ece-90% Cse/ai- 80% Overall -86% Average - 8.85 lpa Median-7.5 lpa Highest -35 lpa

I do not have much idea about this field. If I'm not wrong internships begin from 2nd to 3rd year itself, and placements from 4th year. The avergae package here is around 6 LPA, and the highest package offered is 56 LPA. That'll be all from side.
