My college review

The experience has been great at BITS. BITS has a reputation for producing one of the best engineers in India. The facilities are really good and up to the mark. Food in mess is good and most of the time it feels like home. Seniors are really helpful and greatly support the students. The overall review of BITS has been very positive.

The course curriculum of BITS is one of the best in India. There is a lot of academic flexibility with students given the choice to choose electives and complete a course at their own pace. Course curriculum follows the same pattern as is followed in many universities in the United States. The exam structure is surely very well designed. Each year is divided into 2 semesters. Each semester has a mid-semester exam and a comprehensive exam. There is a relative grading system followed and on the basis of the average performance of the class in a particular course, the grade is decided.

BITS has a great placement record to boast of a number of good companies come for placement and offer handsome packages to the students. BITS has a tie-up with many companies which offer a compulsory internship to its students at the end of the second year and in the fourth year and also pay stipend during the course of the internship. The Computer Science department has an average package of about 22 lakhs per annum which is surely one of the best in India. The overall experience of placements has been awesome.

BITS Pilani, Hyderabad has three main fests: Atmos, Arena and Pearl. Atmos is the two-day long technical fest where students from all parts of India come to showcase their skills and mastery of technology. There are a number of technical events organized. The arena is the sports festival where a number of games like tennis, basketball, chess, cricket etc are organized. Finally, Pearl is the cultural fest of the college where many events like dance, music, TED talks etc take place. Many famous personalities also visit the college.

The fee structure of BITS is quite expensive. The cost of studying for four years is about 20 lakhs rupees. But since BITS is a private college and no help from the government is provided this fee is justified and the college tries to justify this fee even more by providing world-class facilities.

BITS provides two types of scholarships: Merits scholarship and Merit cum need a scholarship. A merit scholarship is given purely on the basis of merit and a Merit cum need scholarship is given only to those whose family falls below a certain annual salary. It is also given on the basis of merit.

BITS has high-tech labs with all the modern equipment. It has 2 basketball courts, volleyball courts, wooden badminton courts, squash court, football field and cricket ground. In addition, it has a pool, carrom and chess tables available. There is a Medical Centre that is open 24/7 with a doctor stationed.

BITS has separate hostels for boys and girls. The hostels have top-notch facilities with single rooms provided. There is provision for clean drinking water and the washrooms are very clean. Proper hygiene is maintained and a very positive environment is provided.

BITS has a great alumni network with the passed out student occupying great positions in top-notch companies. Many of them have their own start-ups and are doing great. Most of the seniors and alumni are very helpful and supportive and are always ready to help their juniors whether it is academic-related problem or relationships.

Students have to give an entrance exam called BITSAT for admission in all branches of BITS Pilani (Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad). The criteria for writing the exam is that a candidate must have got atleast 75 percent marks in the 12th board exams. BITSAT is an all India 3 hours long test. On the basis of marks obtained in the test, students sit for counselling and are alloted seats on a merit basis. The whole process of counselling happens in June and July and the new session starts from the first week of August.

The faculty of BITS is very good. The teachers are highly trained and qualified. They try to make the subject interesting. That is the reason why despite there being a zero percent attendance policy one may find classrooms packed. There are a number of teachers that are very good at illustrating the subject and make learning easier for all the students.
