Road to Madurai Medical College

Positive thing is that students get a lot of clinical exposure because of the wide variety of cases we receive in the Madurai GRH. The negative aspect that I believe is that a good relationship doesnt exist between the teachers and the students.

The course is pretty tough. You need good dedication and you have to put into a lot of hardwork. Every year there will be theory and practical exam both of which which require above 50% to pass. This ensures you have both theoretical as well as clinical knowledge to become a good doctor.

In the case of a doctor to get a good name is the most important thing. For that you just need hardwork. My college provides one year Internship with a stipend of 21000 per months. But I feel it is pretty low taking into consideration the sleepless nights we have to go through working during the internship.

The college every year celebrates an intracollege and an intercollege event. Also there will be functions conducted by the alumni and celebrations within the hostel separately. The intercollege event conducted is pretty big.

Its pretty feasible taking into consideration that it is a goverment institution. You just have to pay college fee of around 10,000 per year and exam fee also around 10,000. Mess fees as around 5000 per month and it is paid separately.

There is scholarship for students of Tamil Nadu provided by the State Government. For the students of other states there is MOMA scholarship for the minority communities. The MOMA scholarship provides a pretty decent amount.

The labs are pretty big and provides lots of experience to the students. Sports is also promoted a lot. Cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and athletics are very well promoted. The college sports team are going to other colleges and bagging lots of trophies in the college name.

The hostel is pretty old and thus provides that variety of look to the buildings and surrounding. Electricity is available in every room with common bathrooms on every wing. The hostel has a mess attached with it. Also TV room, Gym, Reading room and Table tennis room is also available.

The Alumni is pretty strong in the college. They come forward and take part in lots of activities conducted by the college. The college I believ is one of the best in senior-junior relationship. There is no ragging or such activities in the hostel or college promises. The college campus and hostel is also completelt under CCTV surveillance to provide atmost security to the students

I got into the college through AIPMT, which was ann All India exam for medical aspirants before NEET came into effect. I had rank 2575 and I got into the college through 3 rounds of couselling. After I got into the couselling process the rest was very easy.

The faculty is pretty nice. They put in a lot of work to ensure good quality of education. They will always be there to help when we need it. The faculty consists of esteedem doctors who have years of experience on the subject at hand.
