Review of NEHU, Shillong

The university is located a bit far from the city center and on Sunday commuting is a bit difficult from the university and very few cabs are available. The university has a great fleet of buses and they help the students to commute to all parts of the city from Monday to Saturday. There are plenty of shops, canteen,restaurants and departmental stores inside the campus.

The course curiculum has 5 papers every semester including practical paper. In second and third semester there are two open course papers, one can take up any open paper from any department from the entire university. End semester exams take place in June and December. 3 Internal exams take place for every paper.

There are no placements in my department however there are placements in School of technology in the university. Some of the departments arrange for internship which is a compulsory part of their course work. I haven't received any stipend during my masters. People pursuing PhD receive stipend between 8,000-10,000 depending on Arts or science background.

Every year there's varsity fest during the month of March. Varsity has sports, cultural, academic, curricular and co-curricular activities during the entire month. There are general fresher's and general farewell. Many other conferences, symposium and events including blood donation, picnics and trekking take place in university.

The fees is feasible since it's a central university. 4500 in first sem, 1800 in secon sem and 2600 in third sem. Fourth semester will be on the same lines. The hostel fees is 150rs per month. 1700rs mess fees per month in the hostel mess.

There are various scholarships available in the university. The government of Meghalaya also gives scholarships for minorities, tribes of North East and also the dean of students welfare also gives a common scholarship for all students of 3000/year.

There are various extracurricular activities spread out throughout the year ranging from inter college and intra university sports competition ranging from squash, marathon, badminton, football etc. Laboratory is well equipped for all tests, the equipment are also latest version.

In hostel we get 24*7 hot water, filter water, Wi-Fi and electricity. There is a games room and television room in the hostel. There is also a dining hall in the hostel basement. The hostel is managed by prefect, assistant prefect and mess secretary.

Alumni association is active and one can find their contact numbers on the official website of NEHU. I contacted them to take review about the university and I received good feedback from his describing everything in detail. The seniors are also very helpful and clarify most of our doubts when professors aren't available.

One has to fill an online application form and send a print out of the same along with attested copies of all required copies. Before filling up form applicant has to pay application fees too. Once the application form is filled up, checkup the official website to check for entrance exam date. Appear for the exam in NEHU shillong campus in cluster classroom and the results will be declared within a week. Candidates in the first merit list can take admission after filling course fees.

The faculty are experienced in teaching and have good experience in research work. They teach through PowerPoint presentation in each class. Practicals don't take place during the starting months of each semester.
