World of a Simpleton

The college management is always there to give you when your carelessness gets the better of you.

Exams happen on a semester basis every six months with internal exams in between. This is in adherence with the new rules of Calcutta University which has shifted from 1+1+1 part system. This new system is very organized and helps students with the day to day study during the course.

The placement cell has been dormant for quite some time with last direct placement happening in 2012.

Starting from Teachers Day to Annual Cultural Program there are a lot of events happening all through the year. The cultural programs happen with the invitation of other colleges. There is at least half dozen participation from other colleges. Such an arrangement gives rise to heated competitions in the festivals.

The fee structure is one of the best in the city. Nowhere have I seen such a cheap yet good quality education being provided. The monthly fee is only Rs 100 which cheaper than many Central Universities. The college provides all the necessary bills and the breakdowns are mentioned in the bills.

The students do not normally need loans to study here. The courses are cheaper than most colleges in the city.

The gender ratio is quite healthy. There are mostly more females studying English Hons than Males which is a very good sign when seen from gender ratio. There is a fresher party thrown every year for the fresher students. These are organized mainly by the seniors for the new batch. There is also a farewell party for the senior-most batch who are about to graduate. Extracurricular activities are present along with cultural competitions. Football and Cricket tournaments happen every once a year.

The Alumni network is not that active to provide any meaningful help. The college seniors are helpful while settling down in the new environment.

English as a subject had always enthralled me over the years. When it was time to choose my higher education I didn't have any second thoughts regarding the subject. Apart from the subject I also thought that the University under which I am studying is very important. Sarsuna College is under Calcutta University, thus all the professors are veteran Calcutta University professors. Having such a gathering wise human so near my home was a blessing and I took the opportunity with open arms.

Since there were only around 35 students per batch it became increasingly easy to communicate with the teachers. Since English is not a subject of facts and figures they would teach us, talking about their own life experiences and how they dealt with situations and in ways how the subject is related to it. There would be extra classes for people having a problem understanding. There are guest lecturers from time to time who would give a different world view.
