Remarks

Barasat Government College is one of the best Colleges in the district of North 24 parganas. Faculty is highly qualified and cooperates with students and this reflects on the excellent results of the students, each year.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum for Botany (Hons.) is at par with the current syllabus of West Bengal State University. It is a full-time course with a duration of 3 years and the curriculum is set for each year separately. The session for First Year (that includes theoretical papers I and II, and practical paper I) is from August to June, for the second year (theoretical Paper IV-V and practical paper VI) its is September to July whereas for the Third Year(theoretical paper VII,VIII and practical papers-IX,X), they have October-February session. The examinations are usually held a month later, after the completion of the academic session for each year. At present, the college does not provide any internship opportunities to the students. But, meritorious students who score high each year, get scholarships. Industrial visits take place once in a while and seminars are conducted that help students to broaden their approach to their study and understand the future prospects.

For certain courses, a decent amount of placements take place. At present, students are not provided an internship program by the college.

College hosts many cultural programs like Rabindra Jayanti where many students take part in the program. This program is usually held on a larger scale. Apart from this, a number of seminars are conducted were dignitaries from various academic fields attend and discusses on various prospects of career advancement and scientific advancements as well.

Fee Structure And Facilities

As it is a Government College, the fee structure is very much feasible. The course fee is comparatively low and you just need to pay a minimum amount for registration for a year and pay an examination fee just before the exams. There are no hidden costs included within the total fees as all the cost details are mentioned in the form.

Fees and Financial Aid

As it is a government college, students who score well get scholarship opportunities. For graduation courses, scholarship programs is the Kanyashri Prakalpa where girls of the age of 18 years at the time of admission and family income not exceeding Rs.1,20,000/year are awarded Rs.25,000 for the total term of graduation. Additionally, Minority scholarships are also available for the students.

Campus Life

There is an equal distribution of girls and boys attending this college. In certain streams, there are a higher rate of girls' turn-outs like in Botany or English. The college conducts a freshers' programs every year for the new students. It also hosts a number of cultural programs round the year and takes part in several inter-college competitions. The college Union is never harsh on the students and mostly cooperates to maintain normalcy within the college premises.

Alumni/Alumna

The senior students are of great help to the freshers and they are often cooperative. During the first few weeks, you can approach the seniors and they will be happy to help you. The environment is overall very friendly.

Admission

Botany is a subject that goes beyond conceptualizing the life cycle of plants. So, loving activities like gardening cannot be the only purpose of opting for this subject. The syllabus of Botany for Bachelor's degree comprises of study about fossils, plants, the relationship of plants with environment, taxonomy, physiology, anatomy and cell biology of plants. This course aids in channeling opportunities towards becoming taxonomists, ecologists, mycologists and agronomists. Additionally, Bachelor in Science with Botany (Hons.) is the right career option for students aspiring to be scientists. The chief factors that make Barasat Government College, the best option for students opting Bachelors in Botany (Hons.) are as follows: 1. Experienced and highly qualified faculty. 2. The college received Post Graduate status in 2003 and got affiliated under West Bengal State University in 2008. As a fact, students receive exposure to modern techniques and tools which are primarily used in research laboratories only. 3. The laboratories are well-equipped with advanced machinery due to which students get hands-on experience for using the advanced equipment. Previously, the procedure was offline where students had to collect forms from the office and fill it up. At present, the admission procedure is completely online. The students need to visit the official website of the college, fill up the admission form and wait for the merit list to be published. The merit list is published on the official website. Around 3 to 4 rounds of merit lists are published, from which students get selected. Since the selection procedure is completely dependent on the scores obtained by the students and the fact that Barasat Government College has a track record of excellent academic results, students with higher academic scores are sure to make way.

Faculty is highly qualified with years of experience in the field. Classes are held regularly at the stipulated time. In most of the cases, the practical classes are held over a extended time span to let students get in-depth knowledge of the subject area.

Placement Experience:

After completing the 5th Semester the student are eligible for placement but the student should have 7.5 CGPA and a good attendence for the palcement after this oncampus placement like TCS, wipro, accenture etc come for placement with a native package of around 6-8 LPA. Which is goood . Nearly as per report around 80% of studentt gets placed every year . After i complete this course i have decide to go master degree in data science which will be benificial for me for international company.
