NIT Meghalaya Review

Students have to go to college by bus as the hostels are away from college because of which there is a huge loss of time in going and coming back to the hostel. As Shillong is already a congested city, there is a problem with huge traffic, so time gets wasted on going to college and coming back to the hostel.

NIT Meghalaya is adding new courses in its curriculum from the year 2018. It is focusing on new subjects like Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Data Science, IOT related subjects for EE, ECE branches, etc. The course curriculum is similar to other NITs in the country. There is a good environment for coding as well.

The placement is quite good over here. And it is increasing year by year. A good number of companies come for campus recruitment such as Microsoft, Mathworks, Virtusa, ValueLabs, Zaloni, Samsung, Commvault, Vedanta, LNTECC, LNT group, Tata Projects Ltd, TVS motors, Ceat Tyres, Powergrid, Posoco, SKF, Ashok Leyland, etc. And there is a good opportunity to be a part of pool campus recruitment drives at NIT Silchar and NIT Agartala. The college provides internships during summer vacations. A lot of students from all over India are part of it.

There is both a technical fest and a cultural fest. Apart from this, every week some of the other events are taking place under the activities of the Student Activity Centre. Cognitia is the largest technical fest of Meghalaya. Shishir is the cultural fest of our college and it is the largest cultural fest in Meghalaya. During the technical fest, students are participating in various robotics events, quiz competitions, debate competitions, etc, and win a huge amount of prize money. In Shishir, various cultural events occur such as Dance, Music, singing, dramatics, etc.

It is the same as other NITs. The fees are decided by the MHRD, Govt of India. Depending on the location, the fees are not much high. And students whose family income is less, the tuition fees are reimbursed as per the guidelines from NIT Council.

Students can get loans from banks available in Shillong. The college has a tie-up with SBI. So easily a student can get a loan from there. Students also avail various scholarships by private organizations and govt as well for their books, laptops, hostel fees, etc.

The institution is well equipped with all the facilities for labs, sports, and other activities. All the branches have well-equipped labs with new instruments. Regarding sports facilities, the Institute organizes sports events as Cricket match, Football match, Chess and Carrom, badminton, etc. Student Activity Centre also organizes events every week such as speech competitions, debate competitions, etc.

Shillong is quite an expensive place, so it's better to stay in a hostel. All facilities are available in the hostel as WiFi, a Common room, TV, etc. Students can get single-seater rooms, two-seater room, three-seater rooms depending on the availability. Hostels are well equipped with sports facilities as well.

The Alumni network is not that much stronger as the institution is new. Alumni are working in good companies as Google, Powergrid, LNTECC, etc. But the network between the current students and alumni is not much. As the college grows older, this would be improved.

On the basis of marks scored in IITJEE Mains. All over India students prepare for the Mains examination. Depending on the rank in JEE Mains, the seat is allocated to students. I got the seat in counseling by JOSSA( Joint Seat Allocation Authority), New Delhi.

The faculty is mostly young over here, so they understand the problems of students. They are ready to help all the time. But some of them are not good. The faculty here motivate you to take part in competitions outside the college. They also motivate for projects as well.
