Campur Overview of IIT Kanpur

Academic is very tough compared to other colleges here and courses are very old fashioned. Although the improvements are being implemented but at a very slow rate and students have to study some unwanted courses which are never used in their life, so in my vies there should be boot of some old courses.

Course Structure is based on different departments and students choice of courses sometimes. On an average here happens weekly 18 classes per student and weekly two or three labs. Schedule at IIT KANPUR is really hectic, student no chill from 9am to 5pm and sometimes even till 6 pm. Exam pattern includes quizzes, mid sem exam and end sem exam. Some professors also ask for assignment submission and ppt presentations. Academic is supposed to be very tough in my college compared to other IITs. Considering the focus on researchs, students get plenty of opportunities to do experiment and learn, well established labs are available here.

Placement is something IIT Kanpur known for that. Every year atleast 75% students get placed for job in various companies including google, facebook, Oracle etc. My college also provide internships. We have a placement cell here known as Student Placement Office which verifies resume and proposes name of students for jobs and internships interviews. There are also internship opportunities for reaserch under professors. Including all internships stipend varies from 10k to 300k.

My college is famous in country for organizing college festivals. Our cultural fest is Antaragini, where total foot movement cross more than 2000 people, celebrated in October. Technical fest is Techkriti, organised in March,more than 200 hundred other college and schools come to take part in the technical events organised here in campus. Robo war is nostalgia for us in this fest. Sports fest is Udghosh pretty competitive. Around 100 college come to participate in various sports activities in it organised in September. Other activities like IIT K openhouse where school children are invited to know the college life another are workshops to help other to learn from our faculties and laboratories.

Fee Structure is quite expensive here but it is also based on income criteria. Tution fee per semester is 100k and other expenses are mess bills and other fees including hostel seat rents and hostels are compulsory.

Education loans and scholarship both are easily available in my college, but to avail these benifits one has to prove himself/herself a true needy. Here in campus we have two banks which provides education loan instantly and here is one scholarship office also, which avails scholarship to tje meritorious and under privileged students.

For the extra curricular activities we have plenty of clubs and organisations in the college run by students community. Games and sports facilities are superb. We have world class swimming pool which can be used to organise an Olympic swimming competition. Also we have long cricked grounds and football ground. Each hostel is furnished with basketball court, badminton court, table tennis room, music room and television room.

Here opting hostel is compulsory. Hostel charges are 15k approximately each semester and mess charges are not included. Hostels are in good condition though. Every hostel is provided with pure water (filtered). Electricity and water are available throughout the day or night, 24x7. During the first year student have sharing rooms and then they can opt singke occupancy and shared both on the basis of their preferences.

Our alumni network is very large and includes very helpful and successful seniors. We have a network on LinkedIn where we can easily contact our alumni. Each year college organises alumni meet and past students come to guide us and share their experiences.

Every year a council for admission in IITs conduct a test called IIT JEE or JEE ADVANCED, clearing this test and securing a decent rank make you eligible to take admission in any IITs of country. On behalf of the rank one can opt for different courses offered by the college. I am persuing my BS in Economics. There are two chances to give the entrance test for IITs, one is during intermediate schooling and another is just after that following the year you passed your 12th class. This exam is conducted every year on third sunday of May and applications are invited in April just after JEE Main results is announced.

Teaching learning is a mutual process of Students and professors. Some are very good at it and some are not. Well, as per my opinion faculties are every bit dedicated to teach perticular course and there are TAs also who give their best.
