Remarks

One of the negative points of the college is that it is very far from the Bangalore city centre. So travelling to any happening place took a lot of time and was also expensive. Also,as mentioned above, the hostel had bad food, which was tailored mostly for South Indian students. Any student from North India, like me, suffered some issues with the food and even after numerous complaints there was not much change.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

In Bangalore, the course of Biotechnology was just booming and my college was one of the oldest to have that course and amoung the best ranked in the state. The course curriculum is really precise and at par with any international college for the same degree. It gives students an in-depth knowledge of the whole of Biotechnology course. The course curriculum contained detailed lab subjects which helped students prepare for research work in future. The exam structure is based on a system called CBCS (Choice based credit system) which allows the students to select from the prescribed courses. Exam structure was semester wise, and each semester comprised of 3 internals, held at intervals of a month (out of which the average of 2tests were taken) of 20 each, and a semester exam of 80, making a total of 100. This course is later converted to credits and the final score is given in GPA format. This structure leaves room for students to maneuver with the courses and score better.

Placement Experience

5

Our college as a whole guaranteed approximately 95% placements for the students. But honestly, our branch had less companies come in for placements. IT companies like TCS, Infosys and Accenture took few students from our branch, but only a handful Biotechnology companies came. Though the HOD helped in off-campus placements of few students. Internship opportunities were not present in the college, but the professors helped us get internships in top companies like NCBS, InStem, Himalaya, etc. Although most of them were unpaid.

College Events

2.5

My college having around 12departments was almost always busy with one department fest or another. Cultural fests were very common and well enjoyed. My college also had a main fest called Kalanjali, which chose the best students in a particular field and then sent to other colleges for their fests. Students were motivated for these events and also attractive prizes were given to winners. There were also Technical seminars and workshops which went on in departments at free of cost to give students knowledge outside the curriculum.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure was okay-ish. It wasn't very expensive. Students from other states had a higher fee, of around 1. 7-2lacs per year. But for students from Karnataka, it was very cheap with a cost of around 40-50k per year.

Fees and Financial Aid

I don't have much knowledge of the scholarships provided by the college as I didn't opt for one. But one of my friends had loan from college because of the reason of coming from a low-income family. Scholarship was given to students from Manipur.

Campus Life

3.5

My college had very engaging extracurricular activities. Sports was very much appreciated and all students, irrespective of gender was appreciated to take part. There was inter-department, intra- and inter-college sports events help all round the year. Students participating in University level sports activities were presented with trophies and cash prizes and given equal recognition with students of high academic merit. Other technical activities included Seminars and Workshops of each department. There were also Seminars about general topics like Women safety and vaccination, etc. There was no political problems in the campus amoung the students or professors.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Yes, I had opted for Hostel and it was one of the best experiences. The hostel is very clean and well maintained and at a considerable price. There is ample rooms for all students. Rooms were 2-sharing and 3-sharing but all of them were non-AC. Though considering the weather of Bangalore, AC is not required. Hostel is very comfortable with 24*7 help service. It had an indoor gaming room, badminton court, and also an equipped gym which was frequented by the students. The food however was not that great. Often students opted for Maggi as a meal.

Alumni/Alumna

My college has a strong alumni network. Some of them often come for guest lectures and help the students get projects or internships in the companies they are working in. Alumni and senior students really help the current batch with all kinds of support, technical or recreational.

Admission

Colleges in Karnataka have a common entrance examination named COMEDK for students from other states. I had gotten admission via the same. After results were announced, I went for 1st Counseling. At that time I had opted for another college, same course, but hoped my luck will be better on the next round. On the day of 2nd counseling, I got into Sir MVIT, which being better ranked I was super happy. On the next day I went to the college itself and enrolled for classes.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty of the college is very well educated, with almost all the teachers having done Ph. D and others doing it. A lab technician also finished his Ph. D on the year I graduated. The HOD of the department is a very good and helpful person, he is one of the top educated professors in the entire college. The teachers have good hold on their subjects and are really knowledgeable. Some of them though are a bit boring in class, which makes it difficult to understand his/her subject. But majority of the professors tries hard to grab onto the interest of students with engaging videos and presentations. Guest lectures were very common in the department from imminent researchers. This helped us understand a subject deeply and also what related work was happening in the industries.
