Remarks
Positive: Timetable inherently contains two half days (or at least one) Syllabus isn't a burden and teachers don't pressurise you unless extremely necessary Negative: Hostellers have no time to go out and visit places Curfew time is way too low Uniforms are expected to be worn Food in the mess and cafeteria is bad
Course Curriculum Overview
We have on an average 2 labs (1 per lab course) per week. The course curriculum is mostly basic atleast for the first 2 years. The gpa/marks structure is based on your internals with a weightage of 50% and externals(end semester exams) with a weightage of 50% There are three quizzes (mini tests of 10 marks) of weightage of 6. 66% per quiz, each semester And there are 2 periodical tests of weight of 15% each per semester. The labs are chill but they usually leave u writing record work on the weekends. The exam structure is pretty structured and regular, almost every month you are writing one test or another.
Placement Experience
Major companies visiting the campus: Microsoft Amazon Atlassian Software Jupiter Cisco Internships: College provides internships only from the 7th semester (beginning of 4th Year). However, a student can apply for an internship on his own irrespective of his year of study with required help from his faculty members.
College Events
None of the college fests are cross college events, i. e. the 'fests' are only for students studying in the college, other college students can't come and participate. Also they are very insignificant, the magnitude of the fests and events are on par with a high school annual day celebration. CSE event related there are a few good club events and all like SLAC(stay light and code- a hackethon with good sponsorships) The college doesn't fund the clubs and hence the club events and the fests are lowkey stuff with not much participation and resources. If the club members actually want to do some event thats worthwhile, they would mostly have to fund for it out of their own pockets. Where in other colleges, events have prize money and other goodies, which is the main attention bringer that gets people to participate, our college doesn't due to no funding and at max a guy can get a certificate or a cup(if the club is really big relatively). The college campus does celebrate certain Hindu holidays in campus such as onam, pongal and some certain poojas
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure (around 2. 7 lakhs per year) is actually expensive and in my opinion not worth joining the college unless u have a scholarship or something, for the same amount you could join some other better college, say like PESIT. Fee Structure: Counselling fee: ?10000 (only during counselling) Transport fee (2020): ?27000 Hostel fee including mess(2020): ?85000
Fees and Financial Aid
There is a scholarship based on your AEEE rank, for the first 117 or so seats that take it. There is a scholarship amount of 90%, 75% and 50% off the annual fees. To maintain your scholarship you need to have a SGPA (per semester grade point assessment) of 8 minimum for 90%, 7. 5 minimum for 75% and 7 minimum for 50%. I have availed the 50% scholarship.
Campus Life
The gender ratio is 4:1, no parties whatsoever. There are workshops time to time every week, not all of them are worth it, the student population is highly people from andhra or telegana. In a class, 85% of the students are telegu speaking ( no exxageration) and more than half of them can't speak English properly. They are so comfortable about majority of the populace being telugu speaking that random students, parents and even faculty ask u something in telugu first, then realise that u don't speak the same tongue. Tolerance wise the college doesn't score high. The majority of the populace mainly faculty are traditionalists/conservarives and not really open minded. Some faculty get triggered just upon seeing a girl keeping a hand on her male friends shoulder. The college is pro hindutva, there is a sanskrit morning prayer, have a cultural department which gives courses such as cultural education and amrita value program. Hearing them at first it seems normal, but no. The classes are highly idelogicallly charged and subtlety promote hindu supremacy. Giving biased info/details om history politics etc and also teaching hindu mythology. Worst thing is its a compulsory course. Sports the college has a good basketball team and coach and a decent football team.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors are extremely helpful and help with placement training and personal betterment. Some seniors gladly involve you in their projects and also give their recommendations about you to their research mentors.
Admission
Admission to this college requires writing it's own entrance exam, Amrita Engineering Entrance Exam (AEEE), although they now accept K-CET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) and JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) scores. Each Amrita campus has a reservation for students from its own state; Bengaluru Campus provides reserved seats for students from Karnataka, Coimbatore Campus has provides seats for students from Tamil Nadu and amritapuri campus provides for students from kerala. A rank of lesser than 5k in the AEEE can get you a seat in Computer Science and Engineering provided you belong to Karnataka. They also provide hundred or so scholarships of 90%,75% and 50% off the fees depending on your rank.
Faculty
The faculty members are mostly capable and good in their particular fields. They are in general supportive and interested in their subjects. Although some teachers teach better than the rest, a majority of them are well versed with their syllabus and are genuinely helpful.
