Remarks
Positives: Manipal is a great place, lots of things to see and visit places nearby. A very student friendly town. Cost of living is low compared to cities. All kinds of people are there, and your life here totally depends on who you choose to make friends with. There is no ragging whatsoever and they are very strict about it. There are student support centers and there is KMC Hospital where you can get excellent treatment for FREE. Beaches, mountains are close by. Negatives: Airport is far away (66kms). Autos are expensive and are little overpriced. Fees is a little more than it should be. From June to September there is extremely high rainfall every single day. There is basically no winter. Summer is extremely humid and sunny.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is great, with 1 or 2 labs per semester. Teachers always encourage student to join a research team. Total marks for a subject is 100, out of which 50 are internal marks and 50 are external examination. The internals consist of four 5 mark assignments which are open book and two 15 mark sessional tests. The end semester exam is of 50 marks. Overall in a week you will have two full days - 1 lab and 3 to 4 classes and 4 half days - 3 to 4 classes. Pretty chill but not too chill.
Placement Experience
Placements depend on the branch. Branches like CSE, IT, ECE, EEE, CCE have the highest placement offers, and companies like Microsoft, Goldman Sachs recruit too. The college does not provide an internship but they do have many industry partners and will be happy to help you to get an internship there.
College Events
Technical fest is called Tech Tatva. Its a great fest with numerous workshops, events, games and food stalls. Cultural fest is Revels. These fests are loved by almost everyone and everybody looks forward to them. Big celebrities and singers, DJs come to perform at these fests and participation by the students is amazing.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is definitely high compared to other colleges in India. I think it is a little overpriced. For the high demand branches fees can go up to 4 lakh an annum. For my branch it is 2,85,000 a year and they increase it every year. You will not have any regrets though.
Fees and Financial Aid
They have a scholarship if you get a very good rank in the entrance exam. If your entrance exam rank is below 1000, then you can apply for scholarship. I am not sure about the loan facility but I think there is one.
Campus Life
Labs are great and lab assistants are helpful. You can come to the labs and practice when you are free. Manipal is known for parties. This place is heaven if you like partying. The ratio of girls to boys is approx 1:3. There are student projects who are devoted and work extremely hard and compete internationally, like Mars Rover manipal, Formula Manipal. Manipal has the best indoor sports facility in India called Marena. Needless to say, you get acess to all world class gym equipment, basketball, badminton, table tennis, futsal, squash, tennis, swimming pool, etc for Rs2000 a month. Manipal town and college is very accepting and there is no bias against any religion, culture, gender or sexual orientation. There are a LOT of clubs you can join for different purposes, ranging from photography, politics, anime, dance, music, you name it and there is a club for that.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are great and range from old cheap hostels to International level expensive ones. You can select your hostel and it is based on the CGPA. Every hostel has cleaners who clean your rooms regularly and there is a permission time, you will have to be back by 10pm if you are a first year student and after that it is 11pm. Single AC room with a bathroom can cost around 1,80,000 a year including food and everything. There are hostels which are as cheap as 60,000-70,000 as well.
Alumni/Alumna
Interaction with seniors depends on you. They won't come out of their way to help you but will surely be ready to help if you ask them to. Even for alumni, you can contact them through your teachers or by email and they will help you.
Admission
1) Registration for the exam in December or January 2) Online entrance exam in your city 3) Counseling session and giving documents etc 4) Branch selection based on rank 5) Hostel selection based on exam rank 5) Joining the college
Faculty
The faculty is diverse, there are professors with more than 20 years of teaching experience and there are some new young professors as well. Most of the time there are no issues with the teachers. Majority are interested and genuinely care to tech the students.
