Remarks
It's a perfect place for overall development, especially in the extracurriculars. The college has a lot to offer, more than mere academics which is a part of every college. What makes it different is it's equal focus on all aspects. The only change it needs is strict attendance implementation which I guess has happened gradually as compared to my academic session 2016-19.
Course Curriculum Overview
Since GGDSD Offers a variety of courses and BA being a vast one with a number of subject combinations, there is segregation of students into sections and each section has a different time table which makes it convenient. The college has semester system, each academic year has 2 semesters and prior to semester exams, mid sem exams are conducted for half of the syllabus making it easy and putting less burden on the students. The only factor lacking was the implentation of strict attendance system in the college for BA students which makes it easier for them to skip classes, especially of subjects like english and HCP or other subjects which are easy to study on own. Exams were pretty chilled and not burdening since we had mid sems and then our final semester exams which helped us have an idea of the exam pattern and also tested half of our semester syllabus.
Placement Experience
For my course I do not know much about the placement cell, but some of my juniors and seniors have been placed, the college offers enough exposure for studnets to take internships in their respective fields, ranging from even management to organising trips, content writing, photography. There is a drama club, literary club, dance groups etc. The college provides enough ground to the students for placements and internships within and outiside college.
College Events
College fests, Youth fest, Our college has several times won the first place in youth fest in several categories, Blood donation camps, TedX, Sports Day, Inter college debate competetions, MUN's were regularly conducted. Apart from that Rotract Club has been quite active. Students have been active organizers of events ranging from freshers to farewell, from one day trips to other college trips. From elections ro reforms and changes in the system, improvement in the facilities for the students. The Cultural events are organised at large scale and offer the students a platform to showcase talents ranging from anchoring to beauty peagents and a lot more. Students from other colleges are welcome to participate and prize ceremony is held right after. Aluminis are invited to talk to the present students, mostly those who have successfully achieved what they desired in respective fields. Prominent ones being, Guthhi from Kapil Sharma show, Prince Narula, the Roadies fame, Harman Sing- a renouned punjabi singer, fashion bloggers and content curators.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Being a semi government College affiliated to Punjab University, the fee structure is quite feasible. For my course it was around 22k in the first year to 25k in the last which is quite feasible. Even for the other courses like Bsc it wa somewhere around 30 to 35k per annum.
Fees and Financial Aid
College Offers Scholarships to Position Holders in youth fest, fee reductions, Canteen Coupons etc. The College even collaborated with a coaching institute named Chanakya for providing IAS coaching within the College premises.
Campus Life
There's a lot of exposure for students looking forward to extra curriculars. GGDSD being a co-ed and a very social place offers it's students with various platfroms to showcase and enhance their skills and talents, including Fests for every departenment and a common fest for all departments. Students are trained in music, dance, from folk to clasiscal, solo and groups for Youth Fest. The college students have won many awards and trophies in the same under various categories, ranging from music to dance, to drama and mime. Debates, art and many more. Political parties and studnets organizations are quite active, elections are held each year. There is diversity of students from various states of the north and even north east. Good and friendly atmosphere. No ragging witnessed. Students are generous and helpful.
Hostel Facilities
I didn't opt for hostel, The hostel has sufficient seats. Seperate girls and boys hostel with good and clean mess food, and safety measures. PG's are availabl around the Campus with average rentals ranging from 3500 to 10000 per month depeding upon the facilities provided.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors have been extremely helpful. From organising a welcoming freshers to helping with the admissions and queries right from the time of admission to the end. We have all shared a great bond through various integrated cultural events.
Admission
I applied online, and the selection process involved merit based selection. I changed my stream from science to arts with subjects; economics, political science and fuctional english. On the admission fate, I was required to present my documents amd the verification process was done by the teachers after which the Principal of the College himself went through the documents of every student and approved the admission. He also complimented me for my choice of subjects. It was a very well managed process despite of the number of students present for admissions.
Faculty
The faculty is pretty good. Teachers are interactive, supportive, there is a whole lot of exposure in every field, especially the extracurriculars, from MUNs to Youthfest, theatre, modeling team, inter college debates, essay writing, painting, poetry etc. The over all development of the student is emphasized rather than only focusing on the academics. Teachers are friendly and cooperative and offer a lot more than just bookish knowledge, which is an important factor in the overall personality development of any student. There are various events organised in college including TedX, motivational events for students with journalism, offering a broader perspective. Students get to meet and greet prominent people frok the field they wish to pursue.
