Remarks
The college is very strict with the attendance which actually can prove very discouraging for students who want to work, or study for some other course. Also a big issue is that of student failure rate until our batch which joined in 2017, because a lot of students fail and have to repeat. It's around 20-25% in our college. There's no real infrastructure, we literally don't have anything other than classrooms. The library and canteen are shared with other group institutions.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is quite similar to any Mumbai University course or any Commerce degree, basic subjects in tax, finance, accounting, marketing, effective communication, corporate finance, which is quite disappointing, considering the fact that these same subjects are also teached in all other colleges, so it gives no extra edge to the students. The tests and projects are also quite standard comprising PowerPoint presentations etc, but assessment is quite tough. There are no labs, just a computer lab for conducting the subject in basic computers.
Placement Experience
The placement for Internships are not very good, the following companies offered Internships- Cisco, Vanram Solutions, India infoline, impact guru, dream properties, Jaro group. Most of them offer stipends of around 5000/- month.
College Events
The events are mostly organised by student groups, like Social Responsibility Forum, Sports Group etc. The annual fest called Vaayu is another big event. The sad part is that only 10-20% of total students actually take notice of these programs, and that too with focus of gaining a certificate for their CVs.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee is amongst the most expensive for this degree in our country. The fees is around 250000 for the year, excluding admission cost of around 30000 for BBA, for Bcom Honors it is around 175000. This is the structure for current year. They increase the fees by about 10% every year.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are scholarships available as per my knowledge for our course atleast, loans are available from all major banks at feasible rates owing to the college's brand value and strategic partnerships. This is one of the reasons why not everyone can afford this college.
Campus Life
There are student bodies which organize activities like treasure hunts, annual marathons, quizzes, video game contests, sports competitions etc, but since there's no encouragement from college to participate in terms of attendance exemptions etc these activities have little traction. The college is quite tolerant and progressive, though there is some level of elitism owing to the fact that people who can afford an expensive education and lifestyle only make it to the Institute.
Hostel Facilities
There are no college run hostels, the PGs around the area go from 12000 a month to 30000 a month, depending on factors like distance from college, the area, amenities like wifi, tv etc, the construction of building, the quality of apartments, etc.
Alumni/Alumna
The seniors are helpful, a few of them visit and interact, but there's no organized network or gateway which unifies the alumni of a single batch, or the current batch and the alumni. People who have friends or acquaintances from past years on a personal level interact with each other.
Admission
NMIMS's business programs have a country wide reputation which is mostly because of the brand NM and the city, the city's safety and other corporate interaction were key influences, also the brand has a heritage. The college conducts NPAT entrance test which comprises aptitude testing questions in Maths and English. The provide the All India Ranking, top 2000 students get proposal for admission in BBA, Bcom Honors, BSC Finance courses, the following rankers get admission offers in other branches like Navi Mumbai, Dhule, Bangalore Campuses. They ask for documents like past marksheets, you must have scored above 60% in your 12th exam and you're admitted to college.
Faculty
The faculties are not exceptional, or revered in their field, they're all above average. Some of the teachers are made to teach subjects they don't have specialized knowledge of, to adjust for the time table balance.
