Xavier's CMSA Review

Overall it's a good college, in comparison to the others of the same group. On account of being politics free, it's a safe zone for the students who want to study. However, one needs to be on his heels all the time to cope up with the pressure of the continuous assessments and exams.

The exam structure is semester based, having two semester exams a year, also there are mid semester assessment test that carry weightage in the final marksheet. Apart from this there are assignments given regularly by the teachers which are graded to give the student an idea about their progress, however, doesn't carry any weightage in the final marksheet.

The college provided internship opportunities, however I wasn't among the one who opted for an internship. The placement cell was quite a strong one bringing companies like the Big 4, and other giants in the IT industry. Particularly, for commerce folks there were ample placement opportunities.

The college is the host of the famous Xavotsav, that attracts the whole young, college going population across the city. Apart from this there are several departmental fests, which are tech events organized by the different departments that includes lectures from different known personalities. The cultural fests, organized by the different clubs at different times of the year, also have a lion share of attraction.

The fees for the self financed courses are a bit expensive, compared to other colleges under CU. It's approximately 1lac a year. However, there are options for underprivileged students who get good waivers.

There are Scholarship sponsored by NSS for.the underprivileged class. However, I never availed any kind of scholarship. Apart from this, there's an entire other campus at Raghabpur where the cost is far lesser.

The labs are good, for our department. For other departments too, the labs are well equipped with well-trained instructors.There is no involvement of politics parties in the campus, and it's rag free zone. There is respect and tolerance for people belonging to different cultures, race and religion.

Never had much interaction with the alumni network of the college. However, with the minimal interaction, it can be said that they are mostly well established throughout the globe and thus can be of help at the time of distress.

Selection through merit list prepared based on 12th percentage marks. There was no interview involved. Took up this course thinking this would save one extra year of effort and studies (Btech is of 4years), also the Xavier's tag will be an added advantage in CV.

The faculty is attentive and careful about regularity of the classes. The regular assessments and their grading is done seriously. However, it's often noted that the ancillary professors lag a bit in their enthusiasm while taking the classes.
