Remarks
Some things that the college does is very stupid. Example- having to write lab record. The college doesnt cancel classes even during emergencies like floods and thunderstorms. The boys hostels are very far from the academic block. One gets a good amount of exercise, but it can be very annoying in the rain.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is strongly application based and would benefit those who want to join the work force better. Computer branches have 3 labs a week for 3 hours each, there are 3 full days and 3 half days. The day can often leave you drained, but mostly depends on how your timetable is distributed, which you are NOT allowed to choose on your own. It is allotted at the beginning of each semester. There is a 75% attendance criteria which is easy to maintain but is VERY STRICTLY enforced. Each semester is 4 months long, so there are assignments every other week, if not for assignments, there are lab evaluations or sessional exams. However one does get used to the hectic schedule over time. There Is also a lack of holidays in between, but is made up with a very ( almost excessively long) semester break
Placement Experience
Yes. Placements and internships are provided by the college in 4th and 3rd year respectively. Microsoft, Goldman sachs, Cisco, Qualcomm are some of the recruiters. I haven't gotten my internship yet as I am a 2nd year, but you are required to completely one(on your own) as a part of your course, and another in your 4th year. 4th years have an option between opting for an internship or a research project.
College Events
Tech Tatva is the technical fest held in august, revels is the cultural fest held in march. Fests are a big deal in MIT and is an integral part of the culture. Apart from the fests, the student chapters and clubs hold activites all thouroughout the year. Never is there a time when there is a shortage of workshops and events. In fact, there are too many in my opinion and you have to choose amongst 3 or 4 which are held daily.
Fee Structure And Facilities
About the standard fee for a private engineering college, the course costs 3, 82, 000 every year. Prices may vary with the branch and batch. It's reasonable as the facilities are top notch. Hostels can cost anywhere between 90, 000 to 1.9Lacs. Depending in wether you chooses a single room with AC accommodation or a common dormitory.
Fees and Financial Aid
Loans are offered by various banks such as ICICI, SBI, Axis, and syndicate bank. Scholarships are given by the college for top rank holders in each branch based on annual income. Apart from that, external scholarships are also available from other third party education companies
Campus Life
Sports are top notch. Apart from the standard fields for cricket, football and hockey, the college has an indoor sports complex called marena which comprises of 7 floors. It has a gym, a pool, a futsal court, wooden basketball court tennis, a gym etc. Since manipal has rainy conditions during the odd semester's, many students opt for the indoor complex. Teams exist for all sports on a university and college level. Over 50 clubs, so many that there is internal competition between each of them. There is also a high amount of collaboration and it is very easy to find one of your calling. Nearly every domain has been covered by a club, from film making to public speaking and modeling.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are top notch. You have numerous options ranging from single AC to common dormitory. Rooms are neat and caretakers are polite. They get cleaned every 2 days or at will when you call the cleaner. Laundry services are available. Most rooms have attached washourooms which is very convenient. Perm in time is 10 PM for juniors and 11pm for seniors, but an extension to 2am abd 4am is issued to all those who have work, almost everyone who has been part of a club has gotten extended perm at least once. You also get to choose your roommate and change rooms a max of 2 times every year.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors are especially helpful. We usually meet them in clubs where they are usually a level above us. They act as mentors to guide us in all fields. Ragging is practically non existent and seniors are relatively fun people
Admission
Admission was based on a competitive entrance exam. Having gotten a decently good score I chose Information Technology as it had the networking subjects that I want to pursue. Other options to IT were CSE and CCE, But IT appealed to me the most. The counseling process involves sequential allotment of seats, it comprises of 5 rounds and a final sliding round which progresses as students opt out from the course in the beginning. Overall it was convenient and easy.
Faculty
Some are good, some are bad, most are alright. Theres some things which dont make sense like having to write lab records every week( if you are a computer science student) but that depends on your department. If you listen in class, the syllabus isn't hard to understand
