BITS Pilani- It’s magic indeed!!

Pilani’s remoteness in term of location added to the accommodation available for parents who come while admission is somewhat negative. Howver overall academically its a great institution with placements at par with older IIT’s

Course structure is like other engineering institutions with somewhat less focus towards research but with practical components. There are midsem and Comprehensive exams of each subject added to the weakly quizes and labs varying course to course.Overall a good student can manage studies with other cocurriculars but an average would find it hectic especially in Computer Science and Electronics.

This is one place where students of BITS Pilani have an edge over students of other colleges owing to the brand value of BITS tag in India and abroad thanks to the many successful alumni. The college provides teo compulsory internships after second and final year to students In renowned companies as part of curriculum and also an optional on campus PPO oriented internships in special internship season after third year hosting companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung etc. Ther second internship after fourth year also gives students an opportunity to obtain PPO’s before their final placements in fourth year.

BITS boast of the second largest and best cultural festival in Asia in form of Oasis in October- November each year which runs non-stop for 4-5 days hosting about. 5-10 thousand outsiders. There is also a technical festival Apogee with differnet themes each year in February-March which runs for 3-4 days where speakers from differnet parts of the world are hosted in addition to lots of other technical competitions and events.The participation is around 200-400 studens from outside the campus.

I would rate the fees structure high but not very high if the latest fees of IIT’s are also taken into account. There is annual fee hike of around 2-10 percent and varies for students taking admission in different years. On an average of 4 years the total fees for 2021 passing out batch is around 17 Lakhs including tution fees, hostel, mess etc.

BITS gives MCN or Merit cum need scholarship to students whose parental annual income is lesser than 10LPA and also merit scholarship to top 1% students who perform well in each semester. Besides there are other external scholarships available for engineering students given by both government and private institutions as part of CSR.

Gender ratio at BITS is quite bad approximately 25:1 in favour of boys which could be attributed to the remoteness of Pilani and high fees. The are a lot of Clubs and Departments in the institute ranging from cultural associations of each state of India to Photography, Coding, Sports Organizations, Acting, Meme, Creative Thinking, Entrepreneurship, Film Making, Tedex etc which contribute to holistic development of student.

There are around 13 Hostels at Pilani Campus for boys and 1 complex for Girls.Around 70% of hostels have been renovated others are part of Project Parivartam which would complete in another 2-3 years. In first years the rooms are doubly occupied with a single bed, table, chair,shelf and cupboard for each individual in the room which are allocated randomly. In the second year there is lottery system for assigning rooms which are both singly and doubly seated with priority of forming a wing(10-15student neighbours) available to students. Third year onwards, rooms are singly occupied eith the similar choices as above.The hostel fees for a semester is around ?10,000 without mess at pilani Campus

BITS Pilani has probably the largest alumni network in India in form of Bitsaa International which is also a source of huge funding for the college.The success story of some of the very successful alumni like Sabeer Bhatia, Prithviraj Chauhan is truly inspiring for young minds of college.

For entrance into any campus of BITS one must sit for BITSAT which is held in different slots in May. My Jee Advanced Rank was 7000 and mains was 10000 and BITSAT score was 346 so given the choices of college I had with a good branch BITS Pilani Electronics was the best option as I could go in both IT and Core job

The faculty is average if compared to IIT’s and less qualified in comparison to other good institutions as some of the good professors have left the institute. However some of the older professors are still teaching in Electronics who are qualified enough and expert in their subjects.In CS however most of thr good teacher have shifted to goa and Hyderabad Campus. Even then the teachers present are food enough and many are PHD holders in their research areas.
