Remarks
Overall I completed my course and I am a proud alum of JSS. There was equal balance in academics and extra curricular activities.
Course Curriculum Overview
JSS Academy of Technical Education is a college affiliated to Viswewaraya Technological University (VTU). All of the course structure is set by VTU and they govern it. To be honest the courses were actually good and we had most of the subject that was mandatory or required to be a computer science engineer. Coming to research driven there wasn't much scope and the interest given to research was quite bland. I wasn't from the programming background earlier and taking this course helped me to get a good understanding and what was needed to be a programmer.
Placement Experience
Every college boasts of 100% placement even though it's not true. So did our college but majority of us got placed. I myself got placed in 3 companies ( IBM, Tech Mahindra and Mphasis). The institution conducts a placement foundation program in the pre final year that gives you a set of pre requisites and all the basics required branch wise.
College Events
Our college fest VERVE is one of the top most college fests in the whole of Bangalore. We have concerts from bollywood artists and DJ night which is really great. We also conduct an yearly Hackathon event sponsored by Honeywell which turns out to be great. We also have many cultural activities going on and there are many cultural committees like singing, dance, cricket and many more.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure depends on which entrance exam you got into the college and that is final. If you are from a different caste or religion or backward classes there will be scholarships provided to them and again that also depends on the entrance exam. The college fee is minimal and it provides transparency too.
Fees and Financial Aid
No I didn't opt for any scholarships. Again VTU governs all the scholarship activities. As an individual you must be vigilant enough about the updates and the information will not be sent to an individual in particular.
Campus Life
The campus is beautiful which is mostly on a hill or it is elevated and we can see most of the city from around us. The labs are all well maintained with proper equipments and knowledgeable lab attendees. The college also encourages people to take part in extracurricular activities. Our college is co-ed with equal distribution. There are a lot of cultural forums as mentioned earlier and any student can get into a forum of his choice and skill. There is strictly no gender related racism and the college takes severe actions if caught.
Hostel Facilities
No I didn't opt for the hostel facility as I was a native Bangalorean. But few of my friends who stayed in the hostel were happy with thier rooms but not quite happy with the food. Again all the detailed information will be provided by the college.
Alumni/Alumna
Incase if any help is needed the alumnus network will always be there to help you. Many of the alumni resided in other countries also come to help if any student wants accommodation or information regarding their master's.
Admission
I got an admission to JSS thourough K-CET which is an entrance exam once you finish your pre university an there are many other entrance exams. The admission process was quite simple and everything will be conveyed to you then and there. I am an engineer from the department of Computer science and engineering (CSE) and I wanted to be a programmer, hence CSE. There is nothing in particular that I wanted to get into JSS. I chose it because it had a good academic background since 1997 and was close to my house.
Faculty
There are around 30 to 40 lecturers in a department including all the lab attendees. Their skill level was fairly good and we didn't know of they had any certifications. But to be a lecturer everyone was supposed to have their master's degree and I think that makes a person qualified enough to teach. The HOD's were all PHd holders in the relevant field and that makes the hierarchy better and complete.
