Remarks
Management, teachers, dean, administration, education all sucked here. They need to improve everything, mainly the quality of education for which they charge you a bomb here.
Entrance Preview
SET (symbiosis entrance test)Course chosen: Communication design out of a list of Industrial design, Communication Design, Fashion Design and Fashion Communication. Reason why communication design: because I was good with my hand and layout skills, use of typography in day to day life inspired me to take this course up.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is not thought after and an orthodox format followed since years. Small tweaks may have been made but hasn't made a difference since the college's inception. Research work is 0. All the professors here look at and grade you upon is the final outcome/end result. Bookish knowledge yet too orthodox passed around and modernist approach ignored and rejected completely to any project you work on.
Internships Opportunities
Yes. They do provide internships But seriously, if you've done a specialisation in print and publication design, the internship opportunities that lie for you here are local newspapers, Marathi magazines or print/photo copy shops who nowadays in India also provide graphic design services. So yeah, no respect after you graduate with this super 'respected' degree in your hand. Stipend offered at such internships are either nothing or no more than a mere 2000 rupees a month.
Placement Experience
Similar to internship opportunities, same followed here. No respectful job, no respectful salary, you just feel dejected. Lots of these startup firms come to hire from our college to get their intern like work done, but not many do opt for these. Everyone mostly ends up searching for a job on their own. Most of which again prefer freelancing over getting hired in a multinational company or a design studio. Packages for freelancers or normal designers in a decent levelled design studio should be anywhere between 20k - 70k for Freshers starting out immediately after college, depending on their skills and the hard work that they can commit.
College Events
Cult festival called Fundamental used to happen every year. The only source of entertainment it sure was. But due to lack of funds and support from college faculty, we had to shut it down. Apart from this, regular holidays like Navratri and Independence Day were celebrated.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Way too expensive for what you get to learn. It's the 3rd most expensive design college in India. Currently charging approximately 2 lacs per year. No such credite based info for fee structure ever explained. But every year it increases by 10% according to the law. Hostel fees are around 1 lac rupees and mess fees are 80000 rupees.
Fees and Financial Aid
None! None that I know of. Even if there must be, they must be charging heavy interest rates on them. No respect/appreciation is shown for good work here. Scholarships are granted in most scenarios to Marathi speaking to students, and students who achieve great heights in the sports dept.
Campus Life
Campus life is pretty chill as the city of Pune is filled with young students and bachelors. Gender ratio in SID is 30:70 boy to girl ratio. Most students prefer staying in rented apartments over college hostels for the freedom that is given. Parties are a ritual and pretty fun. Friends are easy to make, ethnicity- most of the students are Indian, some NRIs coming from Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Doha, etc. International students mostly come from South Korea, France and Germany but again very few in number. The economic status is decent of the city of Pune. The college also had loads of money (thanks to the heavy fees we pay) so they keep spending money on the infrastructure.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel should be rated 3/5 and mess food 0.5/5Rooms very decently equipped with basic aminities. But food sucked! Tasteless, disgusting and not much variety. Rooms are clean, housekeeping services are provided on a daily basis, but it's a chargeable acces
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is decent, but it's all because of the student's own volunteering. There's no help/involvement of college/institute in making/maintaining this.
Exam Structure
Exam structure is again orthodox. For the first 2 out of 4 years, written and drawing exams were taken in a design college. In the third and fourth year, practical exams used to take place in the computer labs. They were all decked with Apple iMacs but fo
Faculty
Starting with dean, runs a design college but has an engineering degree himself. Understood that creativity doesn't need a degree in the same field to justify it, but this guy is not even slightly design oriented. His 1 design project that he always talks
